DE Edwards gets a big fine for hit last week on Lions QB

The Pioneer Press reports that DE Ray Edwards got a pretty hefty fine for a roughing the passer penalty on Shaun Hill in last weeks win.

The NFL fined defensive end Ray Edwards $10,000 on Friday for roughing the passer and a shove that started a third-quarter fight in Sunday’s 24-10 win over the Detroit Lions, a league spokesperson confirmed. Edwards, who also was fined $5,000 for a late hit in the preseason against Seattle, hit Lions quarterback Shaun Hill “in the head area” in the fourth quarter,” NFL spokesman Randall Liu said.

Offensive lineman Ryan Cook was fined $5,000 for an illegal clip on linebacker Julian Peterson, who was not fined despite a head hit on quarterback Brett Favre. Defensive end Jared Allen was not fined despite his aggressive role in the scrum late in the third quarter that prompted players to leave the sidelines, which is frowned upon in other leagues. Officials gave both teams offsetting unnecessary roughness penalties.

well worth it. i liked the fighting, good for morale, cohesiveness. i like my defenses mean, not dirty, but mean. keep it up. if they don’t score, we can’t lose

  2. The shot to Favre’s head last week was not good, I’m surprised there was not a fine.

However… Ray Edwards’ flying tackle to the head is something that he has done before, has always been flagged for it, and always will be flagged for it. Will he learn? “Toughness” needs to be within the rules or it doesn’t mean anything. I predict that Ray Edwards will not learn from this, and will cost us a game, or at least a big play, sometime this year. And to Jared Allen: be a tough guy BEFORE the whistle a little more often.

Hey guys! Its been a long time since I’ve come to Vikingsgab. Edwards did the exact same thing against the Lions last year, right? Allen should have been fined too

the lions suck. doesn’t look like they’ll be any help today for us against the fudgepackers, not that anybody would think anything different, but one can hope

    it’s bye week, so…
can’t believe how the twins let down after their clinch. easily could’ve had home field throughout in the AL. it’s a shame, but doubt it’ll matter against the east, anyway. we’ll prolly hafta beat both of ’em to make the WS. hope gardy gets MOY

Rumors that panthers may trade Steve Smith next week or week after. Should Vikings go after him?

he’s hurt now, but sure, he’s a great receiver. it just depends on the deal, and if the vikes can forget the ‘boat rowing’ disply in the end zone he did, aye, matey?
