Distracted Or Not, Favre and Vikings Offense Sputter

During a rain delay that pushed kickoff back by about 45 minutes, Erin Henderson got a bit chippy with Jets players Shaun Ellis and Bart Scott.

I predicted a flea flicker on the first play and wasn’t too far off.  The Vikes ran a double reverse wide receiver option on the first play of the game, in which Randy Moss completed a pass to Brett Favre.  The Vikings were penalized because Favre was an ineligible receiver.

After that, it didn’t get much better.

Adrian Peterson has been solid but unspectacular, running behind an offensive line that is getting owed by a fired up Jets defense.  Also, Peterson has been awful is blitz blocking.  That same defense is consistently getting by the offensive line and causing an already bewildered looking Brett Favre look incredibly awful.

The defense has looked fairly sharp, other than on a handful of plays.  They have managed to give Mark Sanchez a minor case of happy feet but Ladanian Tomlinson and a few poised throws have kept the Jets offense productive enough against an already tired Vikings defense.

The only known casualty of the game is an ankle injury to Brian Robison.  His return is questionable.

At halftime, as the rain continues to pour down on the Meadowlands, the Vikings are trailing the Jets by a score of nine to zero, despite a referee crew that by all appearances seems to have it in for the Jets.

  1. Fragile Freds says:

The offensive line looks bad, really really bad. Favre looks old, really really old. Childo looks bald, really really bald.

Freds has to go take some pictures of his junk and send the pics to Judd and Chip.

  2. Ole says:

Adam, any word about favre breaking down at halftime crying to his teammates “you guys aren’t carrying me tonight”

I agree with Freds, no blocking up front

  3. Ole says:

two plays, two fumbles. cut #4

  4. bigjohnny84 says:

Favre is throwing the game, probably to buy Stergers silence. Just a therory but getting very obvious

  5. Fragile Freds says:

Is the bull pen warming up?

  6. Fragile Freds says:

At this point, Fred’s “all in” on that idea.

  10. Ole says:

yes! the threat of putting in Big Johnny caused that TD

  11. fozz44 says:

    Nice pass johnny.

  12. Adam Warwas says:

Taking a timeout in a close game because the team wasn’t prepared to score a touchdown and hadn’t predetermined what to do after the score. Nice.

  13. fozz44 says:

shoulda passed it to tahi johnny.

  14. Ole says:

    Dugan was open Johnny!

  15. Ole says:

Tahi or Tony Richardson? another great decision by childress

  16. Ole says:

  29. fozz44 says:

Glad to see when they are down 8…..no one even bothers jumping to try to block the extra point.

  30. fozz44 says:

    Run it back Percy

  31. Denise says:

Why didn’t they go for 5? What happened to peterson at the end? Why didn’t Shianco knock that guy over when he saw that it was going to be intercepted? Why did the team not try for 10 points with over a minute? The Bears under Ditka would have continued to try to win!

  32. Denise says:

All the losses were so close that they could have easily be WINS. Don’t give up! They will still be the most exciting team to watch

  33. c.carterhof says:

1-3 sucks. But I can not give up, gotta pick ourselves up by the bootstraps and give it hell.
What else are we gonna do? Quit? Sit down and cry? I didnt think so.

  34. Nume says:

Next week should be fun to watch… I’m a bit worried about Favre’s arm though. On the 2nd to last throw before the last td he seemed to hurt it, and he really looked horrible that last possession. He had percy wide open twice (that 2nd one couldve gone for a td…) and then threw the pick. But yeah, hope its nothing serious. Griffin getting hurt sucks too… notice the Jets had no tds til he went out, next possession they drive right down the field and score.

  35. Brett says:

Can’t live with him, can’t live without him is how I feel about #4 right now… I mean, the three TD passes were very, very well thrown. But the last drive and the interception are just… so bad.

There were some flashes of our high powered offense tonight… I think it’s almost here. I still put some big ??? on playcalling. How is it that you don’t run 1 screen on the blitz happy Jets?!

Defense played exceptionally well given how much time our O kept them on the field. Starting to lose all hope in Allen… he looks less than mediocre lately. No double team… just him getting beat 1 on 1.
