RB Coach Eric Bieniemy leaving to be the OC for Colorado

According to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Vikings running backs coach Eric Bieniemy is leaving the team to become the offensive coordinator for the Colorado Buffalos. He will work for good friend Jon Embree, who is being hired as Colorado’s head coach.

Bieniemy will finish out the season with the Vikings. One of his key roles with the team is working with the offense on blitz protections and so his job goes well beyond that of coaching running backs. Bieniemy also holds the title of assistant head coach/offense with the Vikings. That title was given to him last summer when Southern Cal’s new coach Lane Kiffin tried to hire him as offensive coordinator.

Bieniemy played at Colorado from 1987 to 1990, establishing himself as the school’s all-time leader in rushing yards, all-purpose yards, touchdowns and scoring. He won a national title with the Buffaloes in 1990.

He then spent nine seasons in the NFL (1991-99) before entering the coaching ranks. Bieniemy was an assistant at Colorado in 2001 and 2002 before spending three seasons at UCLA. He joined the Vikings in 2006 after Brad Childress was named coach.

Bieniemy interviewed for the Colorado head coaching job last weekend in Washington, D.C., while the Vikings were in town to play the Redskins. Colorado officials also interviewed Embree at that time.

Dude was a great back to watch at Colorado, not much in the pros, just too small. In regards to his coaching….who knows, who cares, he coaches running backs. But if he was the one to teach Adrian how to pick up the blitz or catch the swing pass perhaps it’s time to move a long.

Freds takes that back, Coach Erik should be credited for the fine work of Tahi and Jeff Dugan. Hell, Ziggy, make him a counter offer! Don’t let him go!

Freds misses hustlin’ Randy “one catch” Moss. The way dude has stretched the field for the Tennesse Titan, what a fine pick up. But at least they didn’t give up a pick for him, just time and money. Do we think that this is Randude’s last year in the league? Maybe our next coach will make the same mistake and pick him up next year! Sheesh.

Now Freds, really, on game day. I think there is going to be a lot of change. Coaches, players, pennies.
Good luck this week in FF, Freds.
    Go Vikes

Holy cow I got a bad feeling after seeing the injury report. No Cheech, Hutch, Edwards, Lewis, etc. At least we’ll get to see jumpin Joe.
