The Walter Payton Man of the Year Award honors excellence on and off the field.
The on the field part of the award is exactly why Vikings safety Madieu Williams will not win the award during the ceremony just prior to Super Bowl XLV. However, there is no doubt that Williams is deserving of recognition when it comes to his off the field generosity.
Williams is a finalist for the award, along with Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and Bears lineman Israel Idonije.
Williams will not be attending the ceremony for the award because he had previously committed himself to visiting service members in the Persian Gulf and fully intends to honor that commitment.
The NFL.com bio for Williams notes that he achieved a career high of 96 tackles in 2010. Still, I highly doubt he will be the winner.

He could have had 130 with all his misses.
yeah he might be a great person but that doesnt translate to wins on a football field…this guy needs to go
AARRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!
i hafta puke. bears suck
It’s really too bad he isnt a better player because he’d be a really easy guy to root for. I suspect the Madieu Williams fan club isnt too overcrowded.
are all these guys from africa?
why didn’t mckinnie get the nod? HE thinks he’s great. don’t they like music?
he might be, just so they can make the NFL look even better when they say “our honorable mention is not here becuase hes in teh persian gulf visiting service members” and it makes the NFL look good. while mckinney is making it rain, dolla dolla bill yall
