Vikings wide receiver Sidney Rice will be a free agent. Drew Rosenhaus, Rice’s agent, told ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on Sunday that his client will not re-sign with Minnesota before first testing free agency. After a breakout 2009 season, Rice had hip surgery in August and missed the Vikings’ first nine games. The 6-foot-4, 202-pound wideout finished the year with 17 receptions for 280 yards and two touchdowns. Rice is one of several key free agents for the Vikings.

Great to get some updates on you again Adam. I’ve missed that during the combine, what do you think of the QB of this class so far, both on field and off field
I really hope this is a Drew Rosenhaus ploy trying to get more money for Rice. If not this maybe a huge mistake on Rice’s part. All I’ve been reading is that talks were going good and how the vikings want to have him back even with the present QB situation. Wether it’s a veteran QB or rookie QB coming in this year, wouldn’t this be the time to show the Vikings what he has to offer besides that 09 season?
eff Rosenhaus.
Newsflash for ya Sid, when you deal with the Devil, you end up getting burned. Rosenhaus is such a freakn scumbag.
I have a gut feeling new cba will split requirement to become a Unrestricted free agent and that it will require 5 years of service. Could not happen to a better guy….
Wonder if Sid is pissed that Greenway got the franchise tag? Sidney is a great receiver, but if you give me 10 chances to franchise either a stud linebacker or a stud receiver I’ll take the linebacker every time. Everybody wants a wide out of Sid’s caliber, but they are a dime a dozen compared to reliable linebackers like Greenway. If Sid leaves I’m sure we can find some hotshot kid with a bad attitude and trade a low pick for him. (Think about the Santonio Holmes trade.)
You never know, maybe Jaymar Johnson has what it takes haha!
Wouldn’t be surprising if Sidney Rice case is brought forward by League during contract discussion as an example of what’s not working with current Free Agency.
Less likely Players would give back Free Agency position as a negotiating point. Owners want concessions in more lucrative areas: a) 18 game sched, b) player percentage, c) rookie signing bonuses.
Owners may not like it but suspect Players will fight hard not to give up Free Agency qualification
I for one dont see giving this guy what he wants for one good season in 2009 ~ He wasn’t even Moss like and has one good season in 4 and now he want top dollar ~
Maybe the Vikings need a new WR at #12 and use the money to sign someone like Edwards so the team isn’t replacing half of the DL in one season ~ Edwards has played well to great sense becoming a starter in 2006 ~ Something no one can say for Rice ~ And thats a fact ~
screw rice in my opinion, the guys a bum and is damn lucky we even offered him a contract
I’m sure the fact that we have nothing close to a bona fide QB and an OL that can’t block the sun are going to affect the interest level that any WR might have of playing in Minny.
Cmon Coach we got Joe “slash” Webb and probowl McKinnie, what more could a receiver want?
Thanks for reinforcing my point, johnny. I appreciate it.
No problem Coach just being honest. I just hope your pal Denzel can overcome the odds and right the ship and I have a feeling he can. It’s gonna be a tough road tho.
Rice is a good guy, so he wants to test the waters. Let him have his day. As your old pal has said time and time again, people who think anyone likes it here better than anywhere else is fooling themselves. It’s all about he money. Who ever pays the most will get old Sid. These guys don’t give a crap about the city they play for.
Sid would play for Valdez Vulcans if it would pay him more money, and so would you!
It’s pretty sad but you’re right Freds, it’s all about the money. loyalty doesnt mean shyt anymore. I for one wasnt raised that way so no I wouldnt play for the Valdez Vulcans for a few extra bucks.
Buds,
Your old pal Fragile is here to tell you that you can probably order your clothes online and have them delivered right to whatever city you play for, you wouldn’t have to stay in Minnesota to buy your “duds”.

By the way, you can try them on in the privacy of your own home instead of in the middle of the isle, next to the corn meal and puppy chow.
I think you’ve taken me a little too far into the backwoods side of things, Freds. No bibs in my closet, but they appear to be a quality item. You gotta know, tho, that I enjoy a good wander through The Mills. If you can’t find the rod and reel you need there, you’re just too dang picky.
Here’s what I’m talkin’ about, Freds.

Well… I like it here better than anywhere else, Freds. Maybe somebody else could, too. But you’re right, its not too surprising that Sidney is taking the “show me the money” route.
we need to sign malcolm floyd if he becomes available, or draft a solid wr in the 2nd round, man that sucks. we should be using those picks in a need area and now thanks to a tool in rice we need to fill the wr position…son of a biotch…
mn teams are so f-ed
