With the NFL Owners meeting in New Orleans taking place this week, it is expected that a list of compensatory draft picks will be released to the public by Wednesday.
I have long been predicting that the Vikings will receive two picks, one for Chester Taylor and one for Artis Hicks. Of course, the formula for determining compensatory picks is highly complicated and also a pretty well kept secret, but I would be surprised if they didn’t get two picks.
Neither pick can be higher than a fifth rounder, as both players were older than the age of 30 when they left via free agency. Taylor should net the Vikes a fifth round pick and I would expect that Hicks gets them either a fifth or sixth rounder.
Compensatory draft picks cannot be traded.
[UPDATE: Well, aparently we have found yet another thing that is different about this offseason. PFT reports that compensatory picks will not be handed out until next week. Drats!]
