Pat and Kevin Williams have been fighting their StarCaps suspensions for a long, long time. So long, in fact, that I almost started to feel like actually arriving at an end point that saw the defensive tackles suspended was never going to happen.
In the midst of a crazy NFL Thursday, however, it appears that the time has finally come.
PFT reports that the Minnesota Supreme Court will not review the appeals against the case, pursued by Pat Williams, and that the players involved are almost certainly going to be suspended for the first four weeks of the 2011 season.
Pat, of course, is likely to not be on Minnesota’s roster at the beginning of the season. However, losing Kevin Williams for those four weeks could be a major blow to the defense, especially with a lack of depth currently behind him on the depth chart.

Hello Adam, Still enjoying your site daily (although it’s been about a year since I left a comment). Keep up the good work. The reason I felt compelled to leave a comment is, you wrote earlier in the week about your mock and unless something crazy happened in the next couple of days you didn’t feel the need to change anything. Well I think the events of the last couple days would qualify as crazy. I’m just wondering if you’ve changed your pick. I would be tickled to get Fairly or Prince. I never saw Prince’s name or Fairly’s name on the list of players interviewed or worked out. Any guess as to why? Keep up the great work.
Good to see you again, make sure to join us for the live chat!
More than in other years, I am completly lost in the mock draft world… this just feels more chaotic than normal.
Nothing has really changed though, in my opinion. No free agents have been signed to take needs off the board. Williams’ suspension doesn’t change my opinion, as I already thought DT was the biggest need on defense. All the Dalton rumors have me a little worried, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
Players NOT invited to private workouts or visits should not trigger any red flags to you. A lot of teams do that to not give any hints as to who they are after. They may have talked to them at the Senior Bowl or Combine and we don’t know it.
Adam,
You say this year is more chaotic than normal, I agree, do you think that is because of the free agency being down, or just because this is a very weird draft class?
The past few years we have been spoiled with amazing, cant miss players while this year I don’t see that, who do you think will be a can’t miss probowler(other than peterson because thats what everyone would say)?
I think it has more to do with the lack of free agency, trades, and rules in general.
This Draft class isn’t that much different than any previous classes, IMO. I think the lack of the above mentioned stuff has just allowed us (fans & media, and maybe even teams) to dig deeper into the lives of these young men because there was nothing better to do. Almost any 20-something dude is going to have issues as a person, let alone as an athlete, so I think we have just seen more of that highlighted.
Can’t miss player: Kerrigan.
Play oddsmaker for me, Adam (or anyone else so inclined). What are the odds of an OL selection in the first two rounds by Minnesota? I’m just trying to decide how high to get my hopes.
I would get them up, it is becoming a popular pick that Castanzo will be a viking on ESPN. That being said Id say there is a 30% chance of OL, 25% DL(dropped a lot in the past 2-3 days), 40% QB, and Im still holding onto that 5% chance of Prince!
Thanks for the ray of hope, Skol. How is ESPN’s track record on picking the draft? Yeah, that’s what I thought. Even so, I’ll go with it.
But mark my words guys (and ABV). If and when we have some true competition for OL postions on this team, it will get much better in a hurry.
First two rounds? I’ll go10% chance in the first round… closer to 35% (pulling that number completely from you know where) in the second.
If you want an O-lineman, coach, then be cheering for a trade backwards when the Vikes are on the clock… just sayin’.
In the immortal words of Dumb, “So you’re sayin’ there’s a chance.” Guess I’ll just have to pin my hopes, and the hopes of the entire Vikings nation, on the improvement of BMac’s tennis game. (Sigh)
