Vikings Sign OT Charlie Johnson

The Vikings have signed Colts OT Charlie Johnson. He has started 54 games since 2006, playing both LT and LG.

Tom Pelissero of ESPN1500 says he has talked to many scouts and Johnson is better suited as a guard than a tackle.

I think this is a good signing and sure adds depth and help to our oline with a versatile lineman who can play multiple positions.

Johnson will wear #73 for the Vikings.

Good signing. Does it now look like Ryan Cook won’t be back?

Cook had vastly improved 2010 season. Surprised we haven’t heard his name.

    • Randy Perrin says:

Vikes stayed in contact with Cook but other teams have shown interest too. With the additions of Kooistra and now Johnson, Cook is unlikely to be back.

I’ll take any lineman from the Colts. Agree with Pelissero, this guy was probably brought in due to Herrera’s injury, not to push McKinnie.

Not only do we need some decent swing linemen, but he may also get a chance to push for the left guard spot. DeGeare shows promise, but he’s still got a lot to learn.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Johnson opens the season as the starting Right Guard.

Also, if Johnson and DeGeare impress in camp, Herrera’s days in purple may be numbered.

Randy Moss announced his retirement. Guess he couldn’t dog anymore routes.

    Finally some OL action.

Team this up with a Twins victory (however unlikely that is), and ol’ Coach may go into rut. Someone should warn Mrs. Coach.

A very good signing IMHO ~

Good to see the Vikes are realising they need to upgrade the OL. I’m not too sure how good a LT this guy is (remember Polian spraying the Oline after their SB loss), I think he certainly benefited from having #18 behind him. Hopefully he can plug into the interior line somewhere and beef up the protection and run game. I would like to think this would push McKinnie to get in shape… we can dream.

Nice to see them sign a lineman that sounds pretty good…
