Monday Camp Notes

Unfortunately, I wasn’t at Vikings practice on Monday but fortunately for us Tom Pelissaro, Judd Zulgad, Mike Wobschall and Jeremy Fowler were.

Some things I took from these 4 about practice today:

Injuries: See Adams Last Post

Jared Allen might be having the best camp out of all players this year so far. He is still embarrassing Charlie Johnson but had good praise for the LT today by saying he’s quicker than McKinnie and more aggressive in the run game.

DE De’Andre Reed has impressed and Frazier has mentioned his name a few times. He said coaches will be keeping an eye on him in preseason but he’s flashing in camp.

QB Joe Webb took one rep at WR today but Frazier states again he will continue at QB for now.

FB Matt Asiata was impressive today and is having a decent training camp so far.

WR Domonique Johnson looks completely lost. Rounding off every cut, no explosion out of his breaks and not catching either.

WR Percy Harvin beat Cord Parks so bad on a play today that Parks fell over and somersaulted.

TE Allen Reisner has shown his catching ability in camp so far and made a nice one handed catch again today.

Vikings receivers and tight ends had trouble hanging onto the ball today. At least 10 drops off of receivers hands.

Mike Priefer named Jaymar Johnson, Greg Camarillo, Marcus Sherels and maybe Lorenzo Booker as the top candidates for punt return duties.

CB Chris Cook is taking 3rd CB reps and seems to be the front runner for nickel duties.

K Ryan Longwell has not missed a kick in “Live” action yet.

It’s still very early and nothing is a sure thing yet but were getting closer to some preseason football. Things will start taking shape here within the next few weeks and we’ll know more on the full time starters and backups.

    Thanks Randy,
Few weeks to shape up, Allot can happen in a few weeks.
Hopefully the injuries will be under control by the start of the season…

      No problem Charlie.

We got hit bad last year with the injuries so hopefully this year is better for us. Only person on the list I’m concerned about is Shank. He delt with some hamstring issues last year too.

I hope Allen is ready when the season begins ~ Last year it was 5 games before he got his first sack ~ I sure hope Robison can push the pocket from the left side ~

Seems like the Vikings are getting some really good news on the late round draft picks ~Now if the can keep it up through 4 PS games maybe the have found a couple of late round steals ~

I look for Webb to get 5 to 10 snaps (other than QB) chances every game to help somehow ~

    • Randy Perrin says:

I think our D-Line is going to surprise some ppl this year. It’s still early but everyone has put together a nice camp so far.

CB Devon Torrence also another UDFA that’s playing well. Picked off Ponder Saturday and almost another today. Pretty deep at CB but wouldn’t count him totally out.

  3. Zag says:

D’Aundre Reed reminds me of a poor man’s Jason Pierre-Paul. Underdeveloped, freak athlete, lanky, fast.

I hope D’Imperio wins the FB spot over Asiata.

    I’m pulling for Jaymar.

    • Randy Perrin says:

Reed looks the part, well get a clearer picture during preseason.

As far as D’Imperio, I’m hearing its either him at FB or no FB at all. Asiata could have a shot on the practice squad possibly.

Jaymar is having a nice camp and right now I would put him as the 4th receiver based off of performance so far. He’s also in the mix for punt return duties too.

  4. Adam Warwas says:

Looks like Zulgad is leaving the Strib… for 1500 ESPN. Interesting, was wondering why Access Vikings was lacking so much over the last couple days.

  5. Vikadan11 says:

Anyone want to add McKinnie back to the roster on the cheap side ~ ? I say no ~ But I’m sure someone will sign him ~

Agent seeking $2.5 million for ex-Viking McKinnie

Agent Drew Rosenhaus is seeking $2.5 million for former Vikings OT Bryant McKinnie, according to an email he has sent to all 32 NFL teams.

McKinnie, who started 132 games for the Vikings since he was the seventh overall draft pick in 2002, was set to make roughly twice that amount before his release by the team last week.

Rosenhaus’ email to NFL teams reads as follows: “Free agent Bryant McKinnie would be willing to sign a one year contract for $2,500,000 plus reasonable incentives. Please let me know if you have an interest.”

P.S. Mr McKinnie’s new work duties include cleaning the packers locker room after home games

p.s.s. You pay us $2.5 million for the pleasure of doing this
