Dallas Cowboys At Minnesota Vikings

Pre-Season Week 3: Dallas Cowboys(1-1) At Minnesota Vikings(1-1)

 7 PM-Central Time

The Cowboys will travel to the Metrodome to face the Vikings tonight for pre-season game #3. The starters should play the whole first half and alot of answers at different positions should be taking shape tonight. First cuts will be happening this coming week so this will be last chance for some players to prove themselves. This will be a good test for the Vikings in the most meaningful pre-season game of the year.

Things to keep an eye on tonight:

1. First team offense has only managed 3 points this pre-season even though McNabb has looked sharp so far. I think we would all feel a little better seeing them put some points on the board with some touchdowns tonight. We should see a good dose of McNabb and company and all eyes will be focused on the first team offense. Joe Webb will be the 2nd QB coming off the bench with Ponder following, and I expect whoever plays better tonight should get the nod to start in the final pre-season game next week.

2. Tyrell Johnson and Jamarcus Sanford are neck and neck for the starting Free Safety position and I wouldn’t count out Mistral Raymond just yet either.  This competition will likely go into next weekend but all 3 should get a good amount of playing time tonight.

3. The offensive line has been in flux throughout pre-season and last week Kooistra started at RG. Well Kooistra went down for the year and Herrera will get the start this week. Herrera, DeGeare, and Cook should all get a chance tonight to make their case for the starting gig. Anthony Herrera will be making his debut after coming off of ACL surgery. Interested to see how he looks post injury.  Also, I’ll have my eye on who can provide some quality depth along the O-Line and will be paying close attention to rookies DeMarcus Love and Brandon Fusco. Would like to see them make the roster this year, think they both could have bright futures.

4. The Vikings defensive line is very deep IMO and I know were going to have to cut some good players. With the signing of Stylez White, The Vikings now have Allen, Robison, Griffen, White, Awasom, and Reed as DE. I think the Vikings will end with 4 DE’s on the 53 man roster, so who will they end up keeping?

5. Vikings WR battle continues on for the 4th and 5th/6th WR spots. Harvin, Berrian and Jenkins still seem to be locks with Camarillo, Aromashodu, Johnson, Iglesias, and Arceneaux competing for the remaining spots. I think Aromashodu has played the best out of the group and Iglesias has also shown some flashes of his potential too. It’s a pretty deep receiving core so this will be a tough decision for the Vikes to make.

6. Chris Cook seems to be the front runner for nickel duties still with Asher Allen still sidelined with an injury. Cook played well last week but I would like to see him build off that performance tonight. One player i’ll be keeping a close eye on will be Marcus Sherels. He’s been impressing in practice and had a solid game last week including a pick 6. Interesting to see if he can make this roster and even beat out Asher Allen for playing time. Cedric Griffin will be getting his first major test this week coming off of injury. He played very limited snaps so far this pre-season and will get a good amount this week.

CB Asher Allen, RB Toby Gerhart(Ankle), LB Heath Farwell(Hamstring), TE Visanthe Shiancoe(Hamstring) and DT Kevin Williams(Foot), LB Jasper Brinkley(Hip Flexor), LB Ross Homan(Concussion).
