My Shot at the 53 Man Roster

Well I think everyone has attempted one of these so why not bore you with another. Vikings wrapped up their last preseason game and must trim their roster Saturday to 53 players. Here’s my take on it:

QB-3
Donovan McNabb, Christian Ponder, Joe Webb

-Question here is who will be QB2? My guess is Joe Webb to start the season. He should see special packages to get him on the field.

RB-3
Adrian Peterson, Toby Gerhart, Lorenzo Booker

-Injuries are a concern but everyone should be ready by week 1.

WR-5
Percy Harvin, Bernard Berrian, Michael Jenkins, Devin Aromashodu, Jaymar Johnson

-Camarillo is on the bubble and cutting him would save the Vikes some money but he’s a veteran and honestly Vikings will probably keep him. My pick is Jaymar Johnson though because I like his punt return potential, cheaper and think he could become a good receiver. Manny Arceneaux started to flash last 2 preseason games but I’m not sure if it was enough.

TE-4
Visanthe Shiancoe, Kyle Rudolph, Jim Kleinsasser, Allen Reisner

-I don’t believe Vikings will keep a FB so 4 TE’s it is. Question now is will they keep Dugan or Reisner? I’ll go with the younger option and with what happened with Shuler last year, I don’t think Vikings should risk losing Reisner on waivers. Also, Shiancoe is entering last year of contract and Reisner could end up replacing him next year.

OLine-9
Charlie Johnson, Steve Hutchinson, John Sullivan, Anthony Herrera, Phil Loadholt, Ryan Cook, Chris DeGeare, DeMarcus Love, Jon Cooper

-I really wanted to choose Brandon Fusco as the backup center but I’m not sure he’s ready yet. If Sullivan goes down, I think Cooper is the better option now while Fusco has more upside down the road.

DLine-9
Jared Allen, Brian Robison, Kevin Williams, Remi Ayodele, Everson Griffen, Adrian Awasom, Fred Evans, Letroy Guion, Christian Ballard

-Adrian Awasom deserves to make the team as he continued a good preseason last night. Ballard also has impressed and brings versatility being able to play DE and DT.

LB-6
Chad Greenway, EJ Henderson, Erin Henderson, Heath Farwell, Kenny Onatolu, Ross Homan

-Vikings could go a bunch of different ways here. With Brinkley going down to injury it leaves the Vikings thin at depth for the position. If you asked me 2 days ago I would have Larry Dean in BUT that’s how quick things can change in this league. I feel more comfortable going with Ross Homan.

CB-6
Antoine Winfield, Cedric Griffin, Chris Cook, Asher Allen, Marcus Sherels, Brandon Burton

-Marcus Sherels has done nothing but impress and you can never have enough depth. Brandon Burton has flashed but does still need to come along a bit more but I do think he makes the roster.

S-5
Husain Abdullah, Mistral Raymond, Jamarca Sanford, Tyrell Johnson, Eric Frampton

These 5 should make it with Abdullah and Sanford as starters.

ST-3

K
Ryan Longwell

P
Chris Kluwe

LS
Cullen Loeffler

From PFT. “The excitement about all the rookie quarterbacks around the league waned during the preseason.

Reality hit, and reality wasn’t bound to be pretty when the kids didn’t have OTAs and minicamp to get ready for their first season”

Stylez White will make the team and based on your list I would say that either Adrian Awasom or Fred Evans will suffer for it.

    • Randy Perrin says:

White helped his case with a sack last night but Awasom has impressed this preseason. White has a chance but I think they’ll go with youth. Fred Evans is the only other true nose tackle on the team behind Ayodele so unless they think Guion can play NT, Evans will stick.

We’re looking at what is happening on the field and deciding who should make the roster. Alternative is to just start slashing anyone who hasn’t agreed to restructure or at minimum:

Kleinsasser, Jenkins, T. Johnson, Fred Evans, Dugan, Farwell,Camarilo, Ayodele. Any complaints just come out and say it was important for team to get younger…

Why can’t our team scout secondary like they do defensive lineman. It seems like every d lineman is worthy of making the roster
