  1. B. Grant says:

Preseason football can only provide a certain number of answers. Now the games count, so here are the questions I hope to get answered on Sunday…

    1. Can Charlie Johnson protect McNabb’s backside, and how often will they give him help with a tight end?

    2. Will Bill Musgrave’s offense effectively use the skills of Adrian Peterson, Donovan McNabb and Percy Harvin?

    3. Is there any hope that Bernard Berrian can provide a serious deep threat in this offense?

    4. How often will the ball go to tight ends Shank and Rudolph?

    5. Have Sanford and Abdulah improved enough to be adequate at the two safety positions?

    6. Will two knee surgeries limit the abilities of Cedric Griffin?

    7. Can Brian Robison and Remi Ayodele step up to their new roles on the Vikes defensive front?

    8. How much will the loss of Kevin Williams for his two-game suspension hurt the defense?

    9. Is Erin Henderson ready to be a starting linebacker?

With that many questions to be answered, it is hard to imagine us winning this game, but I hope to be wrong. What say you, gang?

I’d say why is there a 31% vote for the Chargers to win?? Those Vikings fans on here that have voted for the Chargers to win need to learn how to be homers… southerners are good at that…..
Lesson #1: You vote for your team… matter what!
    Lesson #2: Repeat Lesson #1

    Just sayin’……..

    Go Vikes!

I picked the Vikings by 7 ~ I never pick against them ~ Good thing I dont play cards ~ LOL

    B. Grant, just because you list a lot of questions doesn’t mean that it is hard to imagine the Vikings winning. All it means is you listed nine questions you think might have an impact on the game. Leslie Frazier has gotten the Vikes in the best shape he believes is possible with what he has been given and with what decisions he made in the preseason. The so-called professional prognosticators can make their assumptions on whom they believe has the best chance of winning, but as the old saying goes, “That’s why they play the game.” Whatever happens Sunday afternoon, I’ll be there rooting for the Purple and Gold, and I don’t see why it will be that much more difficult for us to win as for the Chargers to win. Skill, heart, and luck will be the deciding factors, and those favor everyone equally.

    • B. Grant says:

I agree that there is significant parity in the NFL, Tex, and that the game must be played on the field. In addition, my favoring of the Chargers has no tone whatsoever of being critical of Leslie Frazier. I think he is doing a GREAT job in putting this team together, but he is working on a long haul plan as well as a plan for Sunday.

Based on the following considerations, I think us winning is a bit hard to imagine…
      1. The number of road teams that win on ANY Sunday.
      2. Our secondary problems vs. one of the better passing attacks in the NFL.
      3. An entirely new Viking offense, OC, and QB without an off-season to install anything.
      4. The absence of Kevin Williams.

Tex, not picking the Vikings to win this game does not make me less of a fan than you or anyone else. I happen to feel fans need to evaluate the situation and adjust their expectations accordingly. I dearly hope they win, and will obviously be pulling for them to do so.

      • TexVike55 says:

Grant, nowhere in my reply does it say you are less a fan than I am. I’m sorry you took it that way. Nothing was further from my mind than that. What I love about this site is that we are all fans here of our true hearted purple headed warriors. The prognosticators I mentioned were the smiling suits in the video that seemed to have this game all figured out. And nothing will please me more than to have them eating crow as they try to figure out how to explain why the Vikings beat the Chargers and how they could have been possibly WRONG!!!

        • B. Grant says:

No problem here Tex, I know how you feel. I know its wierd, but it’s OK if I pick the Vikings to lose, I just don’t want those self-proclaimed experts doing it. And if I hear someone say they’re going to “break it down” one more time, I… I might swear.

  5. B. Grant says:

I don’t like the fact I said a win is “hard to imagine”. Let me re-phrase the sentence leading into the list of 4…

“The following factors will make it very difficult for the Vikings to win this game…”

  6. B. Grant says:

At the same time, I can offer several reasons why an upset can occur…

    1. Adrian Peterson
    2. Lack of knowledge of our offense on the part of the San Diego defensive staff. Many unknowns as they put a defensive game plan together.
    3. Turnovers and penalites. A home opener can sometimes get players TOO emotional, and cause mistakes to be made.
    4. Special teams. Early in the year is when a coverage mistake most often happens as teams are still putting this unit together. If we can get a score and significant yards from this unit…

  7. Lost Viking says: forgot the all-important Number 5

    5. Bryant McKinnie won’t be attempting to play Left Tackle

    • B. Grant says:

Wow, its like dementia set in for a moment there, Lost. Thanks for pointing that one out. It should probably be first on the list. Addition by subtraction from the start of last season should include Childress, McKinnie, Madieu Williams, Dug… uhhh, just three I guess.

    • TexVike55 says:

Yeah, he invented the ‘Look Out’ block. When the DE blows past him, he yells “LOOK OUT!”

  8. bigjohnny84 says:

I think you,ve covered things pretty well Coach. I for one will be a little more optimistic after this team gets a few games under their belts. One more thing is just some old fashioned good luck would help for a change.

  9. VSU Blazerlady says:

Hey, I want you guys to know that Thursday afternoon tailgating before the Blazers’ game, there was a lady next to us wearing a Packers jersey. I told her that she couldn’t be a Blazer and a Packers’ fan….that she needed to take that puke green shirt off!

Did I do good or what?

Really….I was nice about it… know, we just support our Blazers on the teams for which they are playing……

  10. B. Grant says:

“…a lady next to us wearing a Packers jersey…” That can’t be, Blazer lady. It was a WOMAN wearing a Packers jersey. Also, you can get in trouble telling woman to take her shirt off, so be careful.

  11. AnotherBlondeViking says:

Put me in as a home team girl! (or a Homer..) The Vikes can win! I’m thinking AD will have another great day in San Diego!

Go Vikes! I can’t wait….I ready for some FOOTBALL!

    • VSU Blazerlady says:

It is exciting…..looking forward to the game. It’s been quite a while since I followed the NFL. Thanks to all for all your informative posts….makes the re-learning curve a lot easier!!
