Bernard Berrian Released

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network has reported that the Vikings have released WR Bernard Berrian. This move has been expected since Berrian was deactivated against the Packers on Sunday.

I would expect to see Emanuel Arceneaux get a promotion off the practice squad within the next few days.

The Fresno State alum was a healthy scratch Sunday for the second time in three weeks.

Signed to a six-year, $42 million contract as a free agent in 2008, Berrian caught 103 passes for 1,582 yards and 11 touchdowns his first two seasons with the Vikings, but his production plummeted to just 28 receptions for 252 yards and no touchdowns last season.

Berrian dropped his base salary from $3.9 million to $1.9 million for the 2011 season, where he has just seven receptions for 91 yards in five games, with most of that production (five receptions, 54 yards) coming in a 39-10 loss to the Bears in Week 6.

Because the release occurs after the trade deadline, Berrian will hit the waiver wire. Any team claiming him would be on the hook for $1.117 million in base salary that remains over the final ten weeks of the regular season.

Maybe we are extremely lucky that another team will be stupid enough to claim him…..JUST MAYBE…

    He was lazy too?

  5. Z1Vikingfan says:

It has just irked me watching (what is interpreted as) his careless attitude and joking demeanor on the sidelines. I am thankful for his roster spot to fill with (hopefully) a body that will bust their butt for this team.

“Because the release occurs after the trade deadline, Berrian will hit the waiver wire.” What does the trade deadline have to do with it? Waived means waived, period.

    AAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

    Seriously, Bernard, get.

  8. VikingsDude says:

If he was released before the deadline he could sign with anyone. With the waiver they get to claim a player on the teams record.

  9. Mark says:

    Thank You.

  10. Lost Viking says:

Viking had simply grown tired of Berrian’s indifference about improving his game and a lack of communication between him and the staff

Staff = Bill Musgrave and George Stewart.

Is this so different from Childress cutting Randy Moss last year?
