Vikings Release Statement on Chris Cook

In case you missed what happened with Chris Cook and his off field troubles, here’s the link for it: Chris Cook Charged

The Vikings released a statement today on troubled cornerback Chris Cook. Also, Leslie Frazier spoke briefly on it at today’s press conference.

Vikings statement:

“Cook will remain on our 53 man roster but will not participate in our football activities at this time. We have met with Chris and spoken with his agent and have agreed that currently, Chris should focus on his off the field matters.”

Leslie Frazier confirmed that Chris Cook was taken off the suspended list and added to the 53 man roster. Cook will be paid but will not be practicing or playing until things play out with his legal issues. I didn’t get to see Frazier press conference but according to Tom Pelissero of ESPN1500, Frazier had this to say: “We really think that’s it best for him to really focus on the legal matters and not be a part of what we’re doing right now. That’s what he believes as well, along with his agent, that he needs to really focus on his case, which is a very serious matter as we all know and something organizationally we’re all very concerned about and we want him to put his energy and his efforts into that case.”

Cook’s next court date is set for November 22nd and it’s pretty much a wait and see approach from here. Best case scenario would be for Cook to be found not guilty but If Cook is found guilty, it will be up to the Vikings whether they want to keep him on the roster or if they will end up releasing him.

Initial news coverage seemed to be reporting Viking statement…’for now’

The reporting is dealing in speculation. It emphasized League & NFLPA involvement behind Viking decision. Seems important for Viking to allow legal processes including appeals etc. to play out.

Frazier’s statement about Cook’s future with the Viking not a ringing endorsement. For Viking Fan its good he’s been moved back to the roster and the time line has been lengthened.

Why is it good ?, he won’t be playing this season and now is wasting a roster spot.

    • Lost Viking says:

Viking can activate 45 players from their 53 man roster. Cook will become one of eight ‘inactives’ – potentially to the end of the season. Frazier says it would be hard to think Cook will be back playing before then.

And Frazier wouldn’t speculate on whether Cook figures in the Viking future. Wilfs decided to resume paying him weekly checks of $26,470 plus the roster spot.Have to agree with K. Seifert that Vikings could have left Cook as unpaid suspended list for another couple weeks.

“….Viking are trying to help Cook get his issues straightened out in a pressure-free environment…..If they thought Cook’s departure would be the ultimate result of this episode, it’s hard to imagine they would have taken Monday’s steps.

Vikings are getting a roster exemption from NFL for Cook. But the never singed another player to fill that I know of.

  3. Gary says:

I think they should let him play Monday night, he might kick some azz, make up for the game he missed sitting in jail 3 blocks away…..Afterall, he is innocent until proven guilty……..I really want to give the Packers their first loss…..

  4. 4eversteve says:

The Vikings had better get pressure on Rodgers from the front four or he will light up the score more than he usually does. Our secondary has to mix up the coverages and not sit back and allow the packers to pick them apart, that Tampa Two kinda zone read defense doesn’t work against the packers. The Vikings have to get more physical with the receivers and jam them hard at the line of scrimmage to throw off the timing between Rodgers and his receivers and knock down Rodgers to speed up that clock in his head so he will start making mistakes with the football.

    Collapse for Kalil: Week 10

    DOLPHIN: Odds 4 to 1

Dolphin are showing signs of a pulse. Slipping in Suck for Luck as they go for back-to-back wins. Four point favorite at home against ‘Skin. Third most QB pressures allowed in 2011.

    RAM: Odds 5 to 1

Who remembers the four pre-season wins at this point? Jason Smith concussion problems may make OT the priority. Fourth most QB pressures in 2011. If they can’t beat Brown on Sunday schedule is pointing to a two win season.

    CARDINAL: Odds 10 to 1

With upcoming games against Eagle and 49’er it could be safer to keep Kolb in his walking boot. Without Patrick Peterson’s punt returns, the Card would be winless.

    VIKING: Odds 15 to 1

Christian Ponder showed in Carolina he can play two halves of football. His play in second half of season will determine Viking draft status.

    JAGUAR: Odds 15 to 1

Eugene Munroe starting LT but fans look at O line and whimper. Next up, the much-anticipated Jag game against ……

    COLT: Odds 20 to 1

Clear leader in ‘Suck for Luck’ competition. Colt have forgotten they have to compete if they want to win games. Could get first win against weaker competition upcoming but no on-field evidence

    PANTHER: Odds 20 to 1

Jeff Otah RT placed on IR and may not be back for final 2012 contract year. Vacancy would allow Matt to join Ryan as highest paid brother act south of the Sedins.

SEATTLE SEAHAWK: Odds 25 to 1

O-line has to better protect T-Jax. Couple games against the up and coming Ram could determine slot.

    REDSKIN: Odds 25 to 1

Redskin three wins put team at verge of elimination from this contest. Bad timing. Redskin have committed to John Beck for the remainder. What better way to guarantee a second half collapse?

    BRONCO: Odds 30 to 1

All Terrible Tim Tebow does is win games. This could be a problem because he sure can’t quarterback.
