Vikings place four players on Injured Reserve; including safety Tyrell Johnson

The Minnesota Vikings made a flurry of roster moves on Tuesday, placing four players on injured reserve, including safeties Tyrell Johnson and Husain Abdullah, Dan Wiederer of the Star Tribune reports.

Johnson has a hamstring injury described as a “significant” by head coach Leslie Frazier, while Abdullah has missed the past few games with a concussion. Joining the two safeties on injured reserve are long-snapper Cullen Loeffler (lower-back fracture) and wide receiver Michael Jenkins, who has a knee injury.

To replace the four on the active roster, the Vikings re-signed wide receiver Stephen Burton, signed veteran long-snapper Matt Katula, and signed safeties Jarred Page and Andrew Sendejo.

Katula has 88 games’ worth of experience with the Baltimore Ravens (2005-09) and New England Patriots (2010). The 27-year-old Page was a seventh-round pick out of UCLA by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2006 who spent last season with the Patriots and started five of six games earlier this season for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sendejo appeared in two games last season for the Dallas Cowboys and had a brief stint with the New York Jets earlier this season. Burton is a 2011 seventh-round pick out of West Texas A&M who has split his rookie season between the Vikings’ active roster and practice squad. The Vikings waived him late last week to add tight end Allen Reisner to the 53-man roster.
