Ponder blames himself for loss against Denver

Minnesota Vikings first-round quarterback Christian Ponder set a franchise single-game rookie passing yards record with 381 yards and a had a career-high three touchdown passes on Sunday, but blamed himself for the team’s 35-32 loss to the Denver Broncos.

I’m disappointed in myself,” Ponder said according to Judd Zulgad of 1500ESPN.com. “It’s hard to look Jared Allen in the eye and tell him I had two picks and a fumble and I cost us the game.”

In the final minute of a tie game, Ponder was intercepted by veteran cornerback Andre Goodman, putting the Broncos in position for the game-winning field goal.

“I’m hard on myself,” said Ponder. “I’m my hardest critic, and I’m going to go back and keep running and looking at those mistakes. I have had way too many turnovers since I have stepped on the field in a Vikings uniform.”

Since replacing Donovan McNabb in the second half of the Vikings’ 39-10 loss to the Chicago Bears, Ponder has completed 56 percent of 216 pass attempts for 1,522 yards with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions. Ponder has multiple interceptions in three of his six NFL starts, during which the Vikings have gone 1-5.

I think the kid is going to be good. It bothers him, and he clearly sees his mistakes and I think he’ll learn. I think both him and Webb have had good attitudes. It’s a good year to lose and yet develop these two guys. We can’t touch the Packers this year. Ponder battled back. It’s Chris Cooks and Cedric and the D.C.’s fault we lost, and wtf with the special teams coverage? God. Those two groups lost the game, not Ponder.

More I see of Blaine Gabbert the better I feel about Christian Ponder.

I like the young man ~ JMHO here ~ I do believe baring injury he is going to be a fine QB ~ Someone a team can win with if they just put some talent around him ~ People calling for his head knowing what he has in from of him for a OL and other than Harvin what does he have at WR ~

Viking didn’t bother with a waiver claim on Taylor Price – 3rd rounder (2010) released by Patriot. They made no move on Jason Hill. Guess our 3rd string depth at WR is sufficient.

Thought they might have given Manny Arceneuax a roster spot. Wondered whether his absence from roster could be contract related?

Even if Viking kept Malcolm Jenkins we would still need to find two new WRs for 2012 (Berrian&Camarillo)

As he should. Our defense was inexcusable but so was Ponders last interception. He is a rookie but at the same time a good highschool corner could have intercepted that pass. He looked down the receiver the whole time and threw it right as the corner peeled off his guy.

I am not saying to give up on Chris, but I am saying people need to stop kissing his a** like hes Tim Tebow or Tom Brady. All I hear is people saying he is going to be a star and he played an amazing game… He didn’t! He put up big numbers(mostly YAC) and gave them 13 points(cost us 3, pick 6, and game losing field goal).
