Vikings place rookie WR Burton on IR

The Minnesota Vikings will place rookie wide receiver Stephen Burton on injured reserve, Jeremy Fowler of the Pioneer Press reports.

A 2011 seventh-round pick out of West Texas A&M, Burton spent much of the season on the team’s practice squad, catching two passes for 38 yards in the three games he was active. Burton suffered an MCL injury during Sunday’s 34-28 win over the Detroit Lions.

Burton’s replacement: To replace Burton, first-year wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux has been promoted from the practice squad. Arceneaux played his college ball at Alcorn State, but went undrafted and spent two seasons in the CFL before receiving a $75,000 signing bonus with the Vikings before the lockout. Arceneaux caught four passes for 86 yards in the preseason and has been on the practice squad since the start of the regular season.

Skoli, you’re really going to have to watch the games right to the end. Anyway, I call it a win.

Collapse for Kalil Contest: Week 15

      RAM: Odds 2 to 1 (Current SOS=121)

Tough schedule and mediocre play point to a two win season. Ram can’t move ball. No offensive line protection. Close out season against Bengal, @Steeler and 49’er.

      VIKING: Odds 4 to 1 (Current SOS=118)

Vike not playing like last place team despite losing five straight. Could be an NFC playoff spoiler. Third string secondary an easy target for Brees this weekend.

TAMPA BAY: Odds 20 to 1 (Current SOS=110)

Seven straight losses for team and coaching staff apparently just going through the motions. Close out season at Carolina and Falcon.

      PANTHER: Odds 30 to 1 (Current SOS=103)

Another game against lowly Buc suggests the Panther could finish 2011 with five wins. Also visit Houston and New Orleans. Maybe Matt’s coming out decision hinges on if he can get teamed with brother Ryan?

      REDSKIN: Odds 30 to 1

Redskin last game at home is Xmas eve home game against Viking. Could factor in draft order.

      COLT: Odds 30 to 1

Run away winner in ‘Suck for Luck’. Andrew should just start packing a bag for Indiana

      BROWN: Odds 40 to 1

Last best shot Sunday at Cardinal. Have to upgrade the right side of offensive line

      JAGUAR: Odds 40 to 1

How one win changes the draft position.

      DOLPHIN: Odds 50 to 1

Dolphin an outstanding 4 and 9 team. Better team than most playoff pretenders. Firing Sparano won’t hurt them but need Moore at QB.

      * SOS = Strength of Schedule as measured by current opponent win total

Kalil looks to be staying at USC, so if they go with a OT it will have to be Riley Reiff or Jonathan Martin. Honestly though I think they should take CB Morris Claiborne if they cant get Kalil, or they should trade back several spots and take Dre Kirtpatrick while gaining some additional picks.

  2. hookem says:

even though it is because of an injury I am glad that Arceneaux is getting his shot in the NFL. The dude has the upside.

  3. Jay says:

If Kalil is staying, they should trade back. I wouldn’t rule out B.C. ILB Luke Kuechly in the first round. EJ is playing out the last year of his contract with a rod in his leg, current backup Jasper Brinkley is coming off a similar hip injury that scared them away from Sid Rice, and Erin Henderson has been taken off the field on third down in recent games. Next year’s starting ILB is not on the current roster.

I’m finally happy to see Arceneaux get called up but this should of happend a longtime ago with the state of are receiving core..I think he’ll be a special player for us sometime soon..
