Packers Practice Squad WR Turns Down Shot to Join Vikings Roster

Just to show how things bad have gotten, Packers practice squad wide receiver Tori Gurley turned down an opportunity to join the Vikings’ 53-man roster this week.

“If you look statistically, their season is going to be over in three weeks,” Gurley said of the Vikings. “We’re already locked to have a playoff spot.”

Undrafted out of South Carolina, Gurley received a $5,000 bonus to sign with the Packers after the lockout ended. Gurley had a team-high nine receptions for 81 yards during the preseason, but could not crack the team’s deep receiving corps and was waived and re-signed to the practice squad in early September.

Gurley has been earning $5,700 per week in non-guaranteed salary from the Packers, who Demovsky reports adjusted Gurley’s pay rate after he turned down the Vikings. Had Gurley accepted the Vikings’ offer, he would have been guaranteed three game checks ($66,176) from the Vikings, but that was not enough to get him to change teams.

“I’m learning from some of the best receivers in the game right now,” said Gurley.

Paying high rates to practice squad players is nothing new for the Packers. Last season the club paid offensive tackle Breno Giacomini at an increased rate. Before he was signed to the 53-man roster last week, quarterback Graham Harrell was receiving $12,500 per week from the Packers.

Spurned by Gurley, the Vikings promoted wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux from their practice squad to the 53-man roster and signed wide receivers Kris Adams and Owen Spencer to the practice squad.

damn this is bad. and what sucks even more is i saw this guy in college he could have done good things for the vikings. better than every wr on the team but Harvin . granted thats not hard

This does suck but I can understand where he is coming from – stay with the Packers who are undefeated & most likely to win the SB again, or sign with the Vikings who have only 3 games left. Lets hope we get some good draft picks & get this team ready to compete next season!!!!
    Lets go Vikings!!!!

to my understanding this is not so unusual. he’ll get playoff checks even if on the phacker’s practice squad

  4. Fantastic points altogether, you just received a brand new reader. What might you suggest in regards to your put up that you made some days in the past? Any positive?
