Report: Vikings to Offer Alan Williams Their Defensive Coordinator Job

It appears that finally the Vikings have a new defensive coordinator. Reports are the team is going to hire Colts defensive backs coach Alan Williams to lead the defense.

The hiring comes after the team removed Fred Pagac as defensive coordinator last week and offered him a position as linebackers coach

Williams wasn’t the only coach that interviewed for the job, as the Vikings also spoke to Raheem Morris and Mel Tucker for the job, and the Bears denied the Vikings permission to interview their secondary coach Jon Hoke for the job.

Williams knows the Cover-2 scheme that Vikings coach Leslie Frazier wants to implement, as he worked for Tony Dungy in Tampa Bay.

Mike Singletary will remain on staff as special assistant to the head coach, according to person with direct knowledge.

Hopefully they’ve found another Mike Tomlin with this hire. It’s hard to say at the moment whether they found a gem, or just had to settle since everyone available with an established track record was running in the opposite direction. Atleast they’ll have a DC for the senior bowl.

The news/the search doesn’t create much in the way of confidence.

Didn’t need a big name replacement. But if the secondary coach of a last place team is the best coaching talent we can attract maybe its a knock on Frazier.

Yeah the Colts D was bad this year, but its tough on a defense when your offense has so many 3 and outs in a game and they never get a breather. So I am hoping that this is a Tomlin like hire and that he will stay around more than 1 year.

    Frazier has got to go

Is the only reason he was offered the job is because, he was the only candidate that would accept the position after being interviewed, knowing full well that he was going to be fired by the Colts anyhow after Jim Caldwell was let go, might as well draw a pay check from these suckers if they are willing to hire him I’m sure is his frame of mind.

Frazier is here because of the uncertainty of the stadium. He was the most convenient and probably the most affordable option. If the Vikings get a new stadium, and he’s anything but 12-4, he’s gone. If the Vikings flame out in Minnesota, he’s gone. All time Viking low.I was with him there in the beginning, but his coddling of Ponder makes me sick. He annointed him for “the next 10-15 years”,after it was announced there was a QB competition, which Ponder clearly lost. And Singletary, I don’t know. He probably hates the Vikings. I think the Vikings will be at the bottom for the next few years with this group, I hate to say, including coddled Ponder. At least they’ll draft high for the team that plays in its new stadium, wherever that will be. I hope not. Oh yeah, and the uniforms SUCK! Send them back to Childress. All time Viking low. GO GIANTS!
