Reports Say Agreement On Vikings Stadium Near Metrodome Is Close

The Vikings, city of Minneapolis and state of Minnesota are close to an agreement on a deal to build a new stadium near the Metrodome, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

An agreement would still need to gain support from the Legislature and the Minneapolis City Council.

“I’m hopeful that they’ll get something resolved in the next couple days, but there is no guarantee of that,” Governor Mark Dayton said. “Of course, that’s the beginning of the process. It has to get the support of the Minneapolis City Council. It has to get the support of the Legislature.”

The Vikings will play the 2012 season in the Metrodome. Under the plan for this adjacent site, the Vikings would continue to play in that antiquated building through the 2015 season while a new stadium is constructed. The Vikings would play a couple of games at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota, but could open the new stadium during the 2016 season.
