Could Steve Hutchinson Be On His Way Out?

The Vikings are going younger this offseason in their attempt to catch up with the rest of their division according to the Associated Press, one candidate to be released is five-time first-team All-Pro guard Steve Hutchinson, who is scheduled to make $6.95 million in 2012, the final installment of a seven-year deal worth as much as $49 million. He is well aware of the way his salary sticks out.

“I know what the cap situation is and all that, but it’s out of my control,” said Hutchinson, who recently turned 35.

He said he wouldn’t be surprised if the team asks him to redo his deal to stay this season. He also acknowledged he has considered the possibility of being let go before the new league year begins and free agency opens next month.

“Any player has to worry about that in the NFL,” Hutchinson said in a phone interview Monday.

If the Queenies get rid of Hutch, they will really be hurting on the left side, no tackle, or guard. Hold on to your hat Ponder, cause you will be on the ground alot this upcoming season. The Oline in terrible and not a good prospect in site.

Well it is a good thing we are in a position where we could draft Matt Kalil or Riley Reiff and move Charlie Johnson to left guard.

I say if Hutchinson isn’t willing to restructure his contract, the Vikings will be forced to release him to clear some more salary cap space, ideally it would be great if the could work out a trade with another team more picks in this draft if they don’t get him to restructure.
