Pre-Draft/Free Agency Depth Chart and Salary Numbers

With Free Agency right around the corner starting on March 13 and the NFL Draft a little over a month after that, Rick Spielman and the Vikings staff will be doing their homework to better the football team moving forward. Below is our 17 in house free agents that Matt pointed out in a previous post and also our depth chart as it stand with the 57 players who are currently signed.

All salary number are from Tom Pelissero from ESPN1500. As it stands now the Vikings are currently around 10 Million under the salary cap.

Viking UFA’s

QB Sage Rosenfels
TE Visanthe Shiancoe
WR Devin Aromashodu
WR Greg Camarillo
OL Scott Kooistra
DT Letroy Guion
DT Fred Evans
LB E.J. Henderson
LB Erin Henderson
LB Xavier Adibi
CB Benny Sapp
S Husain Abdullah
S Tyrell Johnson
LS Matt Katula
S Jarrad Page

RB Lorenzo Booker
LB Kenny Onatolu

Thoughts: Out of our in house free agents, Erin Henderson and Husain Abdullah are two names that stand out and I think the Vikings will ask to come back at the right price.

Depth Chart with Salary numbers

1. Christian Ponder ($2,308,795)
2. Joe Webb ($563,128)
3. McLeod Bethel-Thompson – ($397,500)

Thoughts: 1/2 on the depth chart is set for next year and Bethel Thompson might have a chance to stick on roster/practice squad. Vikings could roll with 2 QB’s or they could also bring in a veteran as the 3rd QB

1. Adrian Peterson ($12,705,000)
2. Toby Gerhart ($923,500)
3. Jordan Todman ($465,000)
4. Caleb King ($390,000)

1. Ryan D’Imperio ($465,000)
2. Matt Asiata ($390,000)

Thoughts: Time will tell whether Peterson will be ready by week 1. Gerhart showed last year that he can carry the load if called on but I still think we need a nice 3rd down back. Could Todman be that guy? Possibly but I expect well use a late round pick on a RB to come in and compete.

Wide Receiver
1. Percy Harvin ($2,043,800)
2. Michael Jenkins ($3,166,666)
3. Stephen Burton ($465,000)
4. Manny Arceneaux ($465,000)
5. Kerry Taylor ($390,000)
6. Kris Adams ($390,000)

Thoughts: Outside of Percy Harvin, we don’t have much upside in this group. We really need an outside threat to stretch the field and open things underneath. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us pick up someone in free agency and the draft.

Tight End
1. Kyle Rudolph ($1,052,239)
2. Mickey Shuler ($540,000)
3. Allen Reisner ($465,000)
4. Daniel Hardy ($390,000)

Thoughts: Kyle Rudolph is a potential stud at the TE position and Allen Reisner got some love last year by showing some solid hands in training camp but without Jimmy Kleinsasser the need for an in-line tight end becomes a need.

1. Charlie Johnson ($3,850,000)
2. Phil Loadholt ($917,000)
3. Pat Brown ($540,000)
4. DeMarcus Love ($500,969)
5. Jose Valdez ($390,000)

1. Steve Hutchinson ($7,000,000)
2. Anthony Herrera ($3,583,335)
3. Joe Berger ($1,887,500)
4. Butch Lewis ($390,000)
5. Chris DeGeare ($465,000)

1. John Sullivan ($4,000,000)
2. Brandon Fusco ($498,195)

Thoughts: No doubt about it, we need an upgrade at LT. Matt Kalil seems to be the logical choice if available when we pick in the 1st round. Steve Hutchinson and Anthony Herrera have possibly seen there last days as a Vikings. If we can find a LT, Charlie Johnson could move inside to guard to replace Hutch. Vikings could bring in another lineman but Joe Berger and Brandon Fusco are likely to compete to start at RG.

Defensive End
1. Jared Allen ($14,203,194)
2. Brian Robison ($3,978,666)
3. Everson Griffen ($675,000)
4. D’Aundre Reed ($484,454)

Thoughts: Probably one of our strongest position groups. I expect Everson Griffen to find his way on the field more, he made plays during his limited role last year.

Defensive Tackle
1. Kevin Williams ($8,416,670)
2. Remi Ayodele ($3,438,333)
3. Christian Ballard ($596,110)

Thoughts: Remi Ayodele just never found his nitch in our defense. I think we could see NT addressed sometime within the first few rounds of the draft. Shawn Zobel of Draft Headquarters said the Vikings have shown interest in Memphis NT Dontari Poe towards end of 1st/early 2nd if available.

Outside Linebacker
1. Chad Greenway ($7,700,000)
2. Larry Dean ($465,000)
3. Tyrone McKenzie ($465,000)

Middle Linebacker
1. Jasper Brinkley ($571,500)
2. Solomon Elimimian ($390,000)

Thoughts: Will be interesting to see where the Vikings go with this group next year. Both Henderson’s set to hit free agency and Brinkley is coming off of injuries, there’s some question marks about this group heading into 2012. We would be smart to bring Erin Henderson back and sometime during the draft we will need to address the MLB position and possibly some more depth among the group. I think we could get away with Brinkley as a 2 down MLB and run Erin and Greenway in nickel duties.

1. Antoine Winfield ($3,000,000)
2. Chris Cook ($1,115,000)
3. Cedric Griffin ($4,650,000)
4. Asher Allen ($796,375)
6. Brandon Burton ($521,563)
7. Marcus Sherels ($465,000)
8. Reggie Jones ($390,000)

Thoughts: Cedric Griffin will unlikely be back and we can use a corner opposite Chris Cook(as long as his legal issues get resolved). If we can find a corner to pair with Cook it will allow Winfield to play inside where he’s best served at this point in his career.

Free Safety
1. Mistral Raymond ($499,354)
2. Andrew Sendejo ($540,000)

Strong Safety
1. Jamarca Sanford ($627,321)
2. Eric Frampton ($1,233,333)

Thoughts: Could use an upgrade at either S position. Abdullah will be a question mark due to his history of concussions but I think Vikings will bring him back for cheap and as long as he stays healthy he has starter potential.

Long Snapper
1. Cullen Loeffler ($975,000)

1. Chris Kluwe ($1,633,333)

1. Ryan Longwell ($2,625,000)

Thoughts: Solid group but we could look at a kicker late in the draft to start grooming.

  1. Lost Viking says:

$ 5 million plus for a hiker, placekicker and punter?
How much are they making at their real jobs?

    Good grief.
