Chris Cook Found Not Guilty

I know some won’t be happy and some will but either way Chris Cook has been found not guilty on all counts today in his domestic assault trial. Avoiding his 2 felony charges means thats Chris Cook will likely be playing football for the Vikings in 2012. This is good news for a Vikings secondary that just released Cedric Griffin and was ranked near the bottom last year. Cook missed a majority of 2011 because of the charges but while it’s not likely, he still could face a possible penalty from the league which could come in a form of suspension or a fine.

A young and talented football player gets another chance to turn his image around outside of the football field and hopefully Cook can stay clear of trouble from here on out because this could possibly be his last chance.

since he is clear the vikes should trade him for an additional
draft pick …worth 5 or sixth round pick

    • Randy Perrin says:

He was a 2nd round pick and Vikings look like they are keeping him. Has off the field issues but showed alot of improvement and promise last year prior to suspension.

  2. Lost Viking says:

Singletary should keep a place on the sidelines involving any discussion with Oshiomogio Atogwe. He’s a member of Singletary’s extended family.

But Singletary and the rest of the staff must be doing a slow burn with Spielman dithering on Atogwe. I know I am if only because Viking Safety situation is most understaffed of any.

Vike front office has said former Pro-bowler Atogwe needs medical clearance. However, that didn’t stop rival Lion from arranging visit early next week. Atogwe (30) would compete with Spievey as S starter. Atogwe played through injuries with Redskin most of last year including hamstring and turf toe.

Rumor is Spielman is considering former 7th round draft choice Alan Ball at cornerback. Last year Dallas Cowboy’ secondary redefined the word “embarrassing”. Cowboy cornerbacks Orlando Scandrick, Terence Newman and Ball (27) dragged the team’s passing defense rank down to 23rd in the NFL for the season, giving up an average of 244 yards per game.

With Meriwether and Pool signed and La’ron Landry out there options are few. Atogwe is in the backyard but Spielman has his foot firmly up against the back door. No one seems to ask, why?

    This may not end well.

Cook is back and that good for the Vikings ~ Atogwe is another story ~ He is 30 and has been injured a lot of late ~ Rick is in the middle of a youth movement and has said unless a player really stands out he’s not going to be signing guys on the down side ~ I believe Rick has made that very clear ~

As for Ball if he is signed its most likely will be for ST and maybe a backup safety where he played all 16 game in 2010 ~

  4. Dr. K says:

It’s great news that Cook has been cleared. Hopefully he’s learned a lot from this ordeal and will continue to mature. He’s got alot of talent and the Vikings really need him. With he and Winfield our secondary could be descent. Need one more solid corner and help at safety. Often in these domestic disputes both sides need to go to jail and recieve counceling. It’s never just one persons fault. Welcome back Cook, but it’s time to grow up.

  5. jo says:

Asher Allah is another guy needing to be replaced.
    They should call him toast…..
He cant cover or tackle……he is too soft
We need guys with some toughness

  6. jo says:

    that is asher allen

  7. Sam says:

Cook is our most talented defensive back currently on the roster, Winfield has served the vikings well in he tenure, but never could cover and that is even more apparent now that he has aged. I agree with jo that Allen is terrible he really shouldn’t be on the field unless it is a nickel situation and even then… I just hope the Vikings don’t reach for Claiborne over Kalil.

  8. Vikadan11 says:

Allen is going anywhere ~ He was the Vikings best CB at times last year and he took on teams #1 WR’s instead of Griffin ~

Now I’m not saying he should ever be a starter ~ But he is cheap and he is a goof dime back with Winfield being a good nickle back ~ Both can start in case of injury also ~

Cook should be one starter and there are still some vet out there who can play a few more years in a cover 2 ~

Lastly the Vikings new DC was the Colts DB coach the last 8 seasons so while Frazier helps run the defense Alan Williams will be spending a lot of time working with the DB’s in the beginning of the season based on what Frazier has said ~

I have been talking about young players stepping up so I look for Williams and Frazier to add some new twists to their coverage to get the most out of their young DB’s ~

    Guys like Allen~Abdullah(if resigned)~Brandon Burton~Domonique Johnson~Reggie Jones~Mistral Raymond~Andrew Sendejo~Marcus Sherels and anyone added in FA and the draft ~

And with the WR’s in the NFCN I could see the Vikings picking Morris Claiborne at #3 ~ I believe it hould be Kalil but I could see Claiborne or Blackmon for different reasons ~

Here is what Frazier had to say about young players Saturday ~

Sid Hartman: Frazier says Vikings are still shopping

Article by: SID HARTMAN , Star Tribune
    Updated: March 17, 2012 – 9:52 PM

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says the team remains on the lookout for free agents to bring in.

There has been a lot of talk about the Vikings building for the future and not counting on being a contender this year, but if you ask coach Leslie Frazier, he doesn’t believe that to be true.

“Not in our profession. Somebody else will be sitting in this seat if I look to the future,” Frazier said. “I have to get our guys ready to have a good season next year. We need to have a good year.”

While a lot of Vikings fans are unhappy because the team has signed only one player — tight end John Carlson — since the NFL free-agent market opened last week, Frazier said for everyone to be patient, because the club is still looking at signing some more players.

“We still want to find a wide receiver that can really threaten the field vertically,” the Vikings coach said. “We also want to improve our secondary along with our linebackers, also.

“We’re going to look to do that, we’re going to look to upgrade our team. We may do it through free agency, but we’re definitely going to do it through the draft, as well. But, yeah, we’re still looking at some players in free agency. … It’s not closed, we’re still looking.”

Frazier believes that in Carlson, the former Seahawks player who signed a five-year, $25 million contract with $11 million guaranteed, the Vikings have found an impact player. “I think adding John Carlson to our football team is going to be a great addition,” he said.

Frazier added: “We’ve got some other players that we’re targeting [in free agency], along with this upcoming draft.

“We’ve got 10 picks in this draft, so we’re going to get some good football players that will help our football team.”
    Young players will help

Frazier says there are some players on the current Vikings roster that he expects a lot out of as well.

Speaking about the offensive line, he said: “Brandon Fusco is going to be a guy who has to come along and play better for us, and we’re looking forward to watching him develop. We think John Sullivan is going to be a better football player for us. We need Chris DeGeare to really come on for us. DeMarcus Love, a young man we drafted a year ago, we need those young guys to come along and play well for us.” Love and Fusco were selected in last year’s draft.

Regarding the defensive backs, he said: “We really need Asher Allen to really step up and play well for us. With our young secondary, Mistral Raymond, we need him to play well for us. We’d like to get Hussain Abdullah back from the concussion. We think we have a chance to draft some secondary help, which we’ll have to be able to do.

“Jasper Brinkley [who missed last season] is going to be a big plus for us at linebacker, get him back in the fold, and hopefully we’ll be able to sign some of our free agents as well,” said Frazier, referring to brothers E.J. and Erin Henderson. “We’re still in the process of trying to get some things done. I hope we get one or both of them back.”

So stay tuned. According to Frazier, the Vikings will still make some moves.
