And… than there was none. The Vikings and 4th overall pick, Matt Kalil, have agreed to terms on a contract. Kalil was the 1st of the Vikings draft picks in the 2012 draft but the last one to sign on the dotted line. Kalil should be the opening day starter at left tackle so it was important to get the deal done and get him in training camp. Kalil’s contract is for the standard 4 years.
If you missed it a couple months back, here is a Matt Kalil scouting report
So with that being said, players move into their dorms today and the first practice of training camp begins tomorrow. Football is back and I couldn’t be more excited!!

Cool but why wait till the last second? I hope everyone has a great camp and no ones gets injured .
“Offset” language was holding up the negotiations…in other words, meaning the Vikings wanted something in the contract that states that if we were to release Kalil at some point and another team picked him up, whatever they paid him would come off of what we owed him. In the end, the Vikings had to pass that up to get Kalil to camp on time.
Offset language was the hang up in a lot rookie deals this season with the new rookie wage scale in effect agents are trying to protect the interest of their clients as well as their own in the event something unforeseen happens. The player and the agent still get paid.
I cant blame either side ~ I have always felt that the vets should get the money while they rookie\young guys prove themselves and earn their money and are proven ~
On the other hand it hasn’t been like that in many years and I can blame Kail or anyone else for wanting to make sure they get fairly paid like the players picked around them ~
I’m happy they now have a rookie cap so things are better now than they were just 2 years ago ~
