Vikings To Play At University of Minnesota Football Stadium For Two Seasons

The Vikings say they will play two full seasons at the University of Minnesota football stadium while their new stadium is built in downtown Minneapolis.

Team vice president Lester Bagley says Friday that’s the working plan. The team and the state authority overseeing construction convened Friday to announce that Minnesota firm Mortenson Construction will build the new stadium.

The Minneapolis firm will earn $12.5 million to build the downtown Minneapolis stadium, but its fee could reach $15 million if it meets certain performance incentives. Mortenson also built the Twin’s Target Field and the TCF Bank Stadium on the university campus.

The Vikings had hoped to only play one season at that outdoor stadium. But tentative plans now are to tear down the Metrodome in February 2014 and for the new stadium to be ready by July 2016.

I have to find a way to go to a game in this venue . I have a 12 hour drive from Ohio but I have been to 6 games in Minny including the Dallas playoff blowout in 09/10 but I have never seen the Vikings play outside in the elements .

I’m in Michigan and I think I’ll have to drive over to see the team play an outdoor game as well. Looks like a nice venue but small. Are there usually tickets available on the lot?
