Lastest reports have Bishop narrowing his choice of future team down to Chiefs and Vikings.
Not so fast !
There is another team getting in on the action. The Giants have thrown their hat into the ring, further complicating the issue. In addition, since Bishop has shown himself to be healthy, or nearly healthy, the Packers are now willing to “Take him back”. That’s sweet!
Bishop says he doesn’t care about playing for a contender; he simply wants to play. That makes sence since he didn’t play a single game in 2012 due to his slow recovery from the ruptured hamstring injury he suffered in pre-season.
Word is that Bishop left Minnesota very impressed with the coaching staff and the scheme that the Vikings play.
Next up were the Kansas City Chiefs, but that doesn’t mean Bishop is done looking at teams.
I guess now it’s all about which team offers Bishop the best deal. Unfortunately, if the deals are even money-wise, it might be tough for a guy to turn down the Giants.
But don’t underestimate the “revenge factor”. The Vikings can offer Bishop something the Giants can’t, the chance to play Green Bay twice a year !
The Bishop camp has stated that a decision will be coming soon. Unless you but into the idea of Green Bay getting back into this, then all indications are that the Vikings, Giants and Chiefs are the last men standing.
He is currently listed as the No. 1 Free Agent available on many sites. The following comments from various sources are being circulated across the web:
Pat Kirwan of CBS Sports recently spoke with free-agent LB Desmond Bishop regarding his situation.
Interestingly enough, Bishop mentioned that a return to Green Bay could be an option if all things are equal. Kirwan adds that the Giants and Jaguars could still be options and he has a “feeling” that Bishop will ultimately decide on his next team tonight.
Bishop told Ben Goessling of Sirius XM NFL that he’s been receiving one-year offers since being released; He verified that the teams available included the Giants, Jaguars, Chiefs and Vikings in no particular order.
Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500 reports that a deal between the Minnesota Vikings free-agent LB Desmond Bishop does not appear to be imminent at this point in time.
Pro Football Talk reports that the Jaguars also an option for Bishop.
Ryan O’Halloran reports that Jaguars are “exploring” the idea of signing Bishop, but have yet to schedule a visit.
The Vikings appear to be the favorites to sign Bishop, but as Tom Pelissero points out, his physical will be key in determining whether or not they sign him.
Ty Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel noted that Bishop recently suffered a muscle strain on the inside of his injured hamstring that prevented him from participating in organized team activities and minicamp.
At the moment, it looks like the Vikings and the Giants are in the lead for his talents. Minnesota could really have themselves a complete look on defense if they manage to plug the final hole they have with Bishop, while the Giants could make do with a quality linebacker just as much.
Kansas City? Unless they really blow Bishop away with their contract offer, it seems like they’re remaining as the third and last option for the 28 year old.
