Vikings Want To Talk To Bengals OC Jay Gruden

The Vikings are one of four teams to request an interview with Jay Gruden, offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Gruden, who has won praise around the league for his work with Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton, is free to interview for jobs now that the Bengals are out of the playoffs, and could emerge as one of the hottest coaching candidates this offseason.

It’s telling that four of the five teams with coaching openings — Washington, Tennessee, Detroit and the Vikings — have requested permission to talk to Gruden and even though the Bengals’ offense sputtered in the team’s loss to the Chargers on Sunday, Gruden has built plenty of momentum before this season.

He interviewed for four jobs — Seattle, San Diego, Philadelphia and Arizona — after last season, and seemed likely to get strong consideration this year. The Bengals jumped from 18th to sixth in the league in offense in Gruden’s three seasons, and they’ve made the playoffs in each of his three seasons working with Dalton, who was drafted after the Vikings took Christian Ponder.

Gruden, the younger brother of ESPN “Monday Night Football” analyst Jon Gruden, would follow the Vikings’ interviews with Seattle offensive and defensive coordinators Darrell Bevell and Dan Quinn over the weekend.

They also have scheduled talks with Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and Cleveland defensive coordinator Ray Horton on Monday and Tuesday, and had requested to talk to Denver offensive and defensive coordinators Adam Gase and Jack Del Rio.

I’m going to try and squeeze a comment in here, because my stupid ass laptop keeps wiping out EVERY SINGLE COMMENT I WRITE about 2 seconds before I try to post it, and I’m ready TO FREAKING PULL MY DAMN HAIR OUT!!!!!!! My posts tend to be rather long, as readers here should well know by now, so you can realize how mad it can make you if, after a 30 line comment is written, and you reach for the enter key to post it, IT FREAKING DISAPPEARS!!!!
Anyway, now the purple and gold are searching for a new head coach, and interviewing a slew of different men for the job. Here’s my take, if anyone is interested. They’re basically talking to offensive and defensive coordinators, right?? OK, so you just need to look at the big picture…a little more “in depth”. First off, IMHO, who wants anyone from Cleveland?? So, for me, at least, Horton is out. Del Rio is out, too. He didn’t do anything to take the Vikings to the next level when he was here before, and he didn’t do anything for Jacksonville, either. I can’t recall the name of that one other guy that was in Minnesota before, coaching in some capacity, but I DO RECALL reading stuff all over the net that HE WAS A WASHOUT WHILE HE WAS THERE AS WELL…so, whoever he is…he’s out, too. In conclusion, here’s my take on it, if anybody gives a s*#t. It’s been said by ALL THE GREAT COACHES…DEFENSE WINS BALL GAMES

SEE, I TOLD YOU!!!! MY DAMN COMPUTER POSTED MY COMMENT BEFORE I WAS FINISHED WRITING IT. SOB!!!! SO, defense wins ball games, so, if it were me, the only guys I’d be looking at seriously, are the defensive coordinators from Seattle, (no explanation necessary ), the D coordinator from Arizona, (because Arizona keeps looking better and better on defense), and any other defensive coordinator that is with a winning organization right now, that happens to be in the running for a head coaching job, and will come to Minnesota. I know our offense needs help, and needs to be more creative, ( GET RID OF MUSGRAVE!!!), AND NEEDS A QUARTERBACK, DESPERATELY. So, we just need to hire a new offensive coordinator that has a more creative and better all around football mind than Musgrave has. As I said, DEFENSE WINS BALL GAMES!!! Hire the BEST DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR THAT IS OUT THERE, IN THE RUNNING FOR A HEAD COACHING JOB!! That’s just one Viking fan’s opinion.
