NFLPA Files Contempt Charge Against Roger Goodell and NFL in Peterson Case

NFL Draft

The National Football League Players Association wants a federal judge in Minneapolis to hold the league in civil contempt of court for the handling of the disciplinary matter involving Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson, Rochelle Olson of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.

The NFLPA filed the 24-page document Tuesday, requesting a hearing in front of U.S. District Court Judge David Doty.

The union accused the league of defying Doty’s order from earlier this year “as though it were a meaningless scrap of paper” because of its recent discipline of another player.

Doty ruled in February that the league’s retroactive application of a new disciplinary policy to Peterson’s case was a violation of the league’s collective bargaining agreement with the players. Peterson was disciplined by the league after he pleaded guilty and was convicted of negligently injuring his 4-year-old son by hitting him with a switch in spring 2014.

The NFLPA cited the April suspension of Cowboys player Greg Hardy for domestic violence as reason for the contempt filing. Like Peterson, Hardy was punished under a disciplinary policy that wasn’t in place when his incident occurred.

I’ve been a Viking fan for over 40 years. Seems like every time you pop up a Viking site where comments are posted, somebody says that. That’s cool as hell to me. Die hard Viking fans are THE BEST IN THE NFL!

BUT, I have to say this: First off, I LOVE that #28 dresses out in purple. No doubt whatsoever, top 3 or better, the best the game’s ever seen. I understand that all NFL players have the NFLPA representing them, especially when a hairy situation rolls around…like this one.

It’s good that they have a “governing body” to stand up against the NFL machine for them, and even though most of them are millionaires, at times like these, you’d swear that a lot of them were still in diapers.

SOME may say that the untimely ruling by Goodell and his machine overstepped the bounds of Judge Doty’s ruling. That may be true, although in my humble opinion, the punishment did not fit the crime.

Like many who had their 2 cents on this very touchy and controversial subject, I also felt the wrath of the switch many times while growing up in the South. The practice isn’t uncommon here. BUT, I didn’t get bloodied, bruised, and cut up from the ankles to scrotum at the age of FOUR!

Yeah, I know that EVENTUALLY, Peterson publicly showed “remorse”, saying that he would never use a switch again on his children. Again, IMHO, that was only to cover his a$$, and his public image. His prior comments, in the weeks BEFORE his “rebirth”, showed his true colors.

Being the purple-bleedin’ SOB that I am, I’m thrilled that All-Day is going to be in our backfield in 2015. I have the feeling, though, that when the season’s over, he’s going to do everything in his, and anyone else’s power, to get out of Minnesota. I really don’t think that he gives a crap how the season turns out for the team, but like ANY OTHER COMMENT THAT COMES FROM ANYBODY IN THE NFL, whether it be players, coaches, whoever, what they say in public and / or to the media, is exactly OPPOSITE from what they really mean. It’s all PR crap.

Suspension wasn’t enough. I don’t care if it was for an entire season. Peterson should have felt the switch…from a big, strong, full-grown man, just like his 4 year old did. Six months or so jail time wouldn’t have hurt either.

My belief is that, deep down, he’s really a mean “man” and father. He doesn’t give a crap about any of his kids either. Why else would he have SIX of them, all out of wedlock, spread out EVERYWHERE! Just sowin’ his oats, like any other deadbeat “dad”. Because he can!

NO KID, four years old or otherwise, doesn’t deserve to be beaten, and that is what this act amounts to…beating a child until he’s bloody and swelled from the balls down! And for the record, at NO TIME when it was me feelin’ that switch, my mom or dad NEVER pulled my pants down. If you’ve ever experienced “the switch”, you know that they don’t have to be pulled down. It HURTS LIKE HELL ANYWAY!

One more point, while I’m still logged in. And again, for the record, Ray Rice should STILL BE IN JAIL! And that dumb-a$$ b that MARRIED HIM, OMG! TALK ABOUT FOLLOWIN’ THE MONEY!! THAT’S ALL SHE’S IN IT FOR! And you can bet your last nickel, all she’s doin’ is constantly butterin’ him up with praise, givin’ him what he wants, (AND EXPECTS) IN THE BOUDOIR, so that, in the end, ( and there WILL BE ONE ) that pre-nup will make HER A MILLIONAIRENESS!

There, I’ve said what I came here to say. Hate if you must, I don’t care. Even so, and some may wonder, “how can he say those things, and still be a true Viking fan”? I’ll tell you. I AM A VIKING FANATIC, have been for a very long time…BUT, I’M A HUMAN BEING TOO. One that knows what compassion and self-control mean.

    Oh, well…here goes…SKOL VIKINGS!!
