Late Pick Seals Vikings Fate; Fall on Thanksgiving to Lions 16-13 in Detroit

Minnesota Vikings v Detroit Lions

Darius Slay dropped into coverage as if he was going to cover a deep route and pounced on an opportunity to help the Lions come back to win another game.

Slay intercepted Sam Bradford’s pass from the left hash across the field to help send the Lions into sole possession of first place in the NFC North.

Slay returned the interception 13 yards with 30 seconds left to set up Matt Prater’s 40-yard field goal as time expired, lifting the Lions to a 16-13 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday.

Minnesota could have stuck with the conservative approach it took on offense for much of the game and played for overtime on its last drive, but coach Mike Zimmer allowed Bradford to pass and Slay made him regret it.

Sadly, I predicted this might happen, so I used a Twinspires promo code and bet on the Lions for the win.

Coach Zimmer may have “allowed” the play, ( which, I am CERTAIN that he regrets ), BUT Shurmur is the culprit of the play call.

The ONE thing that lost this game for the Vikings was the “dink and dunk” pattern that Musgrave was famous for! Former Super Bowl winning Head Coach John Madden once said…”if you need 7 yards for a first down, and you’re going to throw for it, you throw AT LEAST AN 8 OR 9 YARD PASS! If you need 10 yards to move the chains, YOU GET AT LEAST 11! If Madden was watching the Vikings / Lions game Thursday, I’m sure that, at times, he was LIVID about Minnesota’s play calling. I DEFINITELY WAS!!! In the red zone, 5 or so yards from the goal line, and from the shotgun, NO ONE IN THAT ENTIRE STADIUM WOULD HAVE BEEN EXPECTING A QUARTERBACK DRAW! If Sam Bradford is known best for ONE thing, it’s his lack of mobility…SO, 5 or 6 yards out, and a decent hole made in the middle, ( Berger and Boone could have made one that would have lasted for 3 or 4 seconds…plenty of time for even to pull off a QB draw for 6, Forbath adds the extra point, VIKINGS WIN!!!! DAMN, DAMN, DAMN IT, I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR!! SHADES OF MUSGRAVE!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! SKOL ZIMMER!! SKOL VIKINGS!!!!
