Colts Stun Vikings 18-15 on Last Second Field Goal

Dominating the Colts all day, the Vikings did something they simply as a team that feels they are going to win the NFC North must do – finish.  They beat the Colts up and down the field, building a 15-0 lead but then allowing Indy back in the game and eventually losing 18-15.  The dagger came as Adam Vinatieri hit a 47-yard field goal with :03 seconds left with the game tied 15-15.

The Colts were stuffed in their first seven drives, only gaining 91 yards in those drives.  The D-line of the Vikings harassed Peyton Manning, and they held the Colts rushing game in check.  While this was going on, the Vikings kicked just five field goals, as every time they got close, they were unable to complete drives.  In their first 8 drives, the Vikings put up 263 yards, but drives stalled every time and they needed Ryan Longwell to bail them out.

Longwell kicked field goals of 45, 27, 53, 46 and 28 yards to put the home crowd in a good mood till Peyton and the Colts offense got things going.  Manning in the second half finally got some time to throw, and in the end finished the day 26-for-42 for 311 with a TD and two picks.  The sad thing the effort from the Vikings run defense was wasted, as they went for just 25 yards on 19 carries (1.3 per carry).
They also wasted a great day on the ground from RB Adrian Peterson, who went for 160 yards on 29 carries.  As a team the Vikings ran for 180 yards on 35 carries (5.1 yards per carry).  Tarvaris Jackson threw for 130 yards on 14-for-24 passing.  The big drive of the game after the Colts went from their own 39 to score on a pass from Manning to Reggie Wayne to tie the game at 15 after the two point conversion.  Minnesota had the ball on their own 2 with 1:42 left, and they went three and out, and had to punt to the Colts.

Indy went smartly down the field quickly at the Vikings 49, as Addai went for a yard, Manning threw incomplete, then hit Wayne for 20 yards to the Vikings 29.  He then spiked the ball and Vinatieri kicked the field goal for the stunning win.  The 0-2 Vikings host the suddenly hot 2-0 Panthers at home next Sunday.
