Vikings Early Scores More Than Enough in 30-12 Win over Jags

The Vikings were able to send the Jaguars fans home before many of them even got in their seats on Sunday afternoon, as the team scored twice in the first 1:41 to jump on the Jags as they topped Jacksonville 30-12. The victory pushes the Vikings to 6-5 on the season, while the awful Jags drop to 4-7.

Adrian Peterson was benched at the start of the game for being late for a team meeting on Saturday, but stll managed to rush for 80 yards and a score in the win. The Vikings D also did their job, as they beat up Jags QB David Garrard and forced the Jags to go away from their running game early.

The Jags did put up 321 yards ot 226 for the Vikings, but the team was able to hold their early 14-0 lead, and helped out by a Ryan Longwell 54-yard field goal at the 6 minute mark of the first quarter they led 17-7. They were up 17-10 at the half, then Longwell notched two more second half field goals to put the Vikings up 23-10.

The team put the game away with Peterson going in from 16 yards out to make it 30-10 with 6:55 left, then a Jags meaningless safety with 3:01 left wrapped up another sound win for a Vikings team that stays pace wth the rest of the NFC North. Minnesota stays tied with the Bears for first in the division, while the Packers are getting ready for a Monday night game that could result in a 3-way tie for the division.

Gus Frerotte had an average game, throwing for 120 yards on 12-for-20 passing with one pick and a QB rating on 56.3. If the Vikings want to take the next step, Frerotte has to play better, but at the same time, they didn’t need him to do all that much Sunday after building the early lead. The biggest game of the year awaits, as they host the Bears on Sunday night football.
