Frerotte Again Says He Wants to Start in 09

The Vikings continue to sit and talk about what they are going to do about the QB spot in 2009, and while Tarvaris Jackson clearly showed that he has a ways to go to be a full-time starter, last years starter for 11 games – Gus Frerotte, thinks he deserves a shot again in 2009 at the position.

Today’s Minneapolis Star-Tribune talks about Frerotte wanting to come back, and wanting to be the starter for the 2009 season. Here is the clip from today’s paper about Frerotte and his thoughts on wanting to compete as a starter for the team:

Vikings quarterback Gus Frerotte, who was 8-3 as a starter last season until he got hurt and was replaced by Tarvaris Jackson, is signed for next year, but he says it is up to coach Brad Childress whether he is back or not. “A lot of people say, ‘Why wouldn’t you want to go back there and, if you’re not starting, just stand there and watch?’ but it’s not about that for me,” Frerotte said. “I played a lot with those guys, so I can still play.” He has not heard from the Vikings recently. “Nobody expressed any of that to me, so who knows?” Frerotte said. “This season was left kind of uneasy and up in the air. “I think there is a roster bonus coming in March. We’ll see what happens with that. … I’m not real worried.”

The Vikings could also look to free agency for a QB, but there are not a lot of name players out there minus Kurt Warner and Kerry Collins, who are both expected to go back to their 2008 teams.
