Buchanon On The Radar reports that the Vikings are showing interest in former Detroit cornerback Phillip Buchanon.

Originally, Buchanon was a first round pick of the Raiders and then bounced around the league a bit.  Obviously, the Vikings would like to find some help at the corner position and Buchanon was cut by the Lions so he would not count against the Vikings “final four” limitations.

Adrian Peterson has a scouting report on this guy for you.  It is one word.  “Fast.”

Seems like an ok player, but he was cut by the Lions. THE LIONS!!!

There are concerns about Phillip Buchanon the obvious one being the various teams that have cut the guy loose. Detroit Lion the latest to pitch the Buchanon after Raider, Buc and Texan

Buchanon is a rental. He’s a ‘play for pay’ veteran with a less than perfect record. Could be another Smooter except Buchanon is more Tampa 2. Recently, he’s been saying the right things and taking company line. Still, there’s something Dwight Smithish about this guy.

Buchanon makes sense as an ‘acquisition’ in that a) only Zygi’s money, b) empty spaces left by Sapp and Griffin injury, and c) who else? Still, why would Lion let him loose as the Buc did earlier? Answer: they both had draft points available to develop their defense.

Boils down to contract length. If Vike are buying Buchanon its only for short term. Vike would still be drafting CB. And you wouldn’t be paying $ 4m. he reportedly made with Lion for a guy who could end up taking Sapp’s role

Is there a reason why the vikes are not perusing bodden? With the signing of hicks and taylor doesn’t that enable us to sign free agents of similar value? I understand you receive compensatory draft picks in next years draft if they don’t sign any free agents, but aren’t they extremely late picks that are unable to be traded away or used to trade up. As i see it, worst case scenario we get a number 2 corner… I really wish they made a move for cromartie, a 3rd rounder next year for a talented corner is cheap, especially considering the woes in our secondary at the moment! As much as people rip the guy for whatever reason, he has undeniable talent, you don’t just fluke 10 interceptions. I think he just needs a change of scenery and system and he will flourish again.

Bodden would come at a high price, we just gave new big contracts to Griffin and Winfield. I can maybe live with Buchanon, but Lito Sheppard is in the same boat, he was released. I still think we need OL help, Cook is not Hicks, and a backup RB. Trade Mckinnie, go after Gaither(might be cheaper than you think), pick up LT or Thomas Jones. Then lets draft.

I heard that Bodden didnt resign according to his agent
