Vikings Aiming For A Movie Deal?

News hit this week that a movie was going to be made in which Robert DeNiro plays the Packer’s legend Vince Lombardi.

Almost immediately afterwards, the Vikings began their pursuit of Ladanian Tomlinson.  So, when you consider that Brett Favre and Pat Williams are still on the roster, you get the impression that perhaps the Vikings are looking to outdo their divisional foes by having a movie made about them.  It would feature old men doing great things that should have been impossible given their age in the tradition of Space Cowboys, Wild Hogs, Old Dogs, and Up.

In all seriousness, it is apparent that, despite his age, the Vikings view Ladanian Tomlinson as a temporary upgrade that could help put this team over the top.  Furthermore, the risk is minimal given the rules of the uncapped year and the absence of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

But why stop there?

The same philosophy could be applied to a number of guys on the market today.

Fullback Tony Richardson is 38 years old and an unrestricted free agent, but judging from last year’s performances would be a pretty clear upgrade over Fahu Tahi.

The same could be said for center Kevin Mawae at age 39, as current starter John Sullivan struggled in his first year as a starter.

Bobbie Williams is 33 years old, but would do a better job of opening up running lanes for Adrian Peterson than what Anthony Herrera was able to do in 2009.

All three of these guys would not be considered long term solutions, but should be considered pretty clear upgrades to the current roster.  When combined with a full arsenal of rookie competition, this could make 2010 a year to remember.

Or at least worth writing a script about.

Kevin Mawae Isn’t that something… Bruce Matthews comes to mind too…

Tony Richardson was one of Childress dumb moves…

Good day Charlie. I think all three moves would be great. Then we just need an upgrade at left tackle especially after what the Lions and Bears did.

I thik those would be good and add a DB to that list too

    waiting…….waiting…….waiting……….

obvious #1 LT’s camp is at least in part using NY to drive up the dollars

obvious #2 NY has already discussed with LT’s camp the QB “situation” of both teams

obvious #3 LT, if he visits NY, will give same kind of speech to press as he did here

obvious #4 the guaranteed money on LT’s next contract (front loaded) will be the last real money of his career, so part of him will be tempted to take the biggest offer, and there lies the interesting game between the two owners…..which is more likely to drop out of the “back and forth” games agents love to play in these situations!

    GO VIKES!!!!!

Andra Davis (30), ILB, was surprising cut by Cardinal. Expect E.J. Henderson to be back for training camp w/ Jasper Brinkley and Heath Farwell backing up.

You would think there could be a place for a veteran LB of Davis’ ability.

The Colts dropped their starting RG Ryan Lilja today. He graded well on ProfootballFocus.com and is only 29. Which is a great age for guards, as they have the longest pro career next to kickers. Plus he was a starter on a winning team, that uses the zone blocking scheme. Even if he doesn’t start, he adds competition and depth to the team. I wanted to just throw that out there and see what you thought.
