First Day Of Media Access Brings Some Fun

The Vikings allowed the media to have access during training activities on Wednesday for the first time.  From that access came quite a few interesting nuggets.

First, there was a competition between a pair of bald-headed members of the team for who could grow their hair out the longest over the course of the offseason.  Brad Childress was not involved.

Heath Farwell and Ben Leber wagered a steak dinner on who could sport the longest locks and Farwell won in a landslide.

“He couldn’t hang. He couldn’t do it. He just got a little scared. He’s too much of a pretty boy,” Farwell said.  “I obviously won. I can’t wait to enjoy my steak on him. I’m going to get some wine and I don’t even drink wine, and I’m going to splurge a little bit and jack up his bill a little bit.”

I find it interesting that Leber involved himself in such a wager and didn’t seem to put in much effort.  I have seen him speak on NFL Network on numerous occasions over the offseason and not once did he have anything but a shiny skull.

Darius Reynaud is taking his move to running back a little more seriously than I initially did.

Judd Zulgad reports that Reynaud has switched his number from 82 to 27 and has added a lot of upper body strength.

It is appearing more and more likely that the Vikings are confident in letting Reynaud, Albert Young, Ian Johnson, and James Johnson compete for the right to fill the void left by Chester Taylor.

“I gave a good look,” Reynaud said. “The defense liked what they saw and the coaches liked what they saw. They came to me after the game before we did our exit [interviews] and said I looked natural back there. I’ve been doing it for a while so it’s nothing new to me.”

“I know I can contribute as a third-down back, I can catch and block,” former Bengal James Johnson said. “I’m just trying to do anything to make the team.”

Some have thought that Mike Montgomery was signed only to be training camp fodder.

That may be true, but not every player has a number assigned to them at this point, but Montgomery is not one of them.

He will sport number 99.
