LIVE CHAT: Day Three

Good morning everybody.

Before we get started, don’t forget to check out my take on yesterday’s two picks, who we missed out on, who is left on the draft board, and my story about motivation.

Otherwise, lets chat it up on Day Three of the NFL Draft in which the Vikings have six picks to make.

Here’s my take on the Vikings draft. They had Kyle Wilson as their targeted pick in the 1st round and the Jets took him right in front of them. Now they decide to be clever and trade down so they can sign the next best DB from Florida State or possibly Cal RB Best for 2nd round salary as opposed to 1st round.

But what happened ? They got burnt and really burnt pretty bad. The Lions take Best with the pick the Vikings gave them which they must not have anticipated. Secondly and far worse our nemesis The Saints took the Florida State CB with the last pick of the 1st round which had to have really put the Vikings management in a foul mood.

So the Vikings end up being forced to take the best CB available who was significantly lower in talent than Wilson or the FSU CB. And then they decide to trade up to get Toby in somewhat of a reach to make amends for the 1st pick fumbling. Toby said he never saw it coming and they hadn’t even talked him very much so really makes you wonder about their preparation for this draft.

Spielman has done a great job in the past so we can let him slide on this one but had to be a little embarassing for him after all the praise he’s had recently.

I do disagree with the Clausen backers though. The kid is a cocky, little prick who is probably overrated and will be tough to get along with by his teammates. I’m very glad they didn’t make that mistake. He’s another Brady Quinn all over again. My bet is that he does not beat out Moore at Carolina and will serve as his backup for years to come.
