Notes From OTAs

Here are a few links to some interesting tidbits surrounding the Vikings most recent OTA’s:

  • Brian Robison showed his high character by helping fourth round pick Everson Griffen throughout practice.  Robison and Griffen are likely competing for playing time in 2010, but apparently that won’t stop Robison from helping his team get better.
  • The Vikes have decided to move sixth round pick Joe Webb back to quarterback after he impressed the coaching staff during the rookie camp.  Webb can throw the ball 70 yards and is known as an elite athlete.  It will be interesting to see if the coaching staff is taken enough with him that he actually challenges Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels for a spot on the QB depth chart.
  • Chris DeGeare was a fifth round selection for the Vikings, and appears to be working at left guard to begin with.  Also, nine players worked out at returning punts (including Vikings Gab favorite Asher Allen).

They should give him reps lining up over the Long Snapper. I heard he moves like Shaun Rodgers in the A Gap.

Great, another QB who can throw the ball 70 yards flat footed, in two feet of snow, in a blizzard, in a hurricane…left handed.

Please tell your old pal Fragile that jumpin joe webb can throw a 10 yard out and thrown a simple slant pattern when the receiver is in full stride. It would also be a bonus if he could read a defense.

Hell, TJax can throw a ball 70 yards. Reading defenses, keeping cool under pressure and hitting a receiver in stride…not so much.

How great would it be to see jumpin’ joe win the job?

Excuse my while I do the Double A dance!! My boy handling his business. Asher did some return work in 06 and 07 during his time at UGA. The kid is a beast quick on his feet. In his 47 kickoff returns for Georgia he managed 1,110 yards. With 28 returns in the 07 season he managed 690 yards so the kid is multi talented I’m glad the vikings recognize his skill and put it to use.
