The Vikings decided to cut their afternoon practice short today, but that doesn’t mean there is no fun stuff to pass along to you hardcore Vikes fans.
The Passers
Both quarterbacks had improved play today. Tarvaris Jackson had a beautiful deep ball caught by Bernard Berrian, who was covered by Lito Sheppard, along the sideline. It was a nice throw, combined with Berrian burning Sheppard, and Madieu Williams was late on the help.
Rosenfels looked sharper today and he didn’t throw a pick today.
In 11-on-11 drills, Joe Webb was picked off by rookie Nate Triplett and the pick would have been returned for a touchdown. The pass was intended for Kleinsasser. Webb ended practice by missing on two passes.
The Runners
This time around, Peterson was able to get his reps with the first team. He caught a ball but followed it up by missing a tough grab.
The Pass Catchers
Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice both sat out again. Once again, rookie tight end did some working out on his own due to a hammy problem.
Word out of camp is that former Gopher reciever Logan Payne has caught everything thrown his way.
The Blockers
John Sullivan remained sidelined for this practice. Chris DeGeare, who has been impressing people so far, was playing in place of Hutchinson with the first team again.
The Front Four
It should be noted that rookie defensive end Everson Griffen has only been playing with the third team defense so far in camp.
The Linebackers
E.J. Henderson did not practice again.
The Secondary
Benny Sapp and Cedric Griffin both sat out of practice again. Jamarca Sanford was getting the first team reps at strong safety after Tyrell Johnson got them this morning. Once again, Winfield, Sheppard, and Allen made up the starting cornerbacks.
Lito Sheppard almost picked off Sage Rosenfels, but he wasn’t able to hang on to it.
The Special Teams
Punt return reps belonged to Taye Biddle, Marcus Sherels, Lito Sheppard, Darius Reynaud, Jaymar Johnson, and Ray Small today.
Hope Everson Griffen gets a chance to play with the second team at some point. I’d like to see him in the gameday rotation.
Zag I would guess that Griffen would be given every chance to play given all the buzz the Vikes brass gave him on draft day. Studwell really bragged him up for sure.
well, at least there was a Kleinsasser sighting
guess wasn’t out bowling with Dugan today
Anyone hear the reports yet? Favre to decline coming back for a 20th season. S@#!
I read it in a few places. Though nothing has been officially announced yet. We’ll see!
Ah! Someone update me on Favre!
Here’s what’s on Rotoworld:
Reports: Favre informs Vikings he’s retiring
Favre
Brett Favre began to inform Vikings officials Monday night he will not return for his 20th season, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and Jay Glazer of FOX.
Favre reportedly told teammates and coaches that his ankle has not responded and he doesn’t plan to play this year. Favre is expected to issue a press release later Tuesday and the team hopes he changes his mind. Keep in mind it’s early August, which gives Favre plenty of time to change gears once the Vikings have begged enough. In the meantime, you’ll want to avoid drafting Favre early and downgrade Vikings wideouts. It’s too risky not too. Aug. 3 – 10:39 am et
