Vikes Up The Ante

I’m trying to do some research and find out if anybody has ever made themselves seven million dollars just by texting a few buddies.

I’m coming up blank, but that might be exactly what Brett Favre has done should he decide to return for another season of football.

According to Judd Zulgad of Access Vikings, the organization has thrown Favre’s $13 million salary out the window and given him the a carrot tied to a stick, to the tune of $20 million.

Of that $20 million, $16 million would be guaranteed money and the rest would be incentive based.

So, if money was the issue, which I suggested it was a few posts down, we might get an answer fairly soon.

However, it is likely that money is a secondary issue to time.  Favre will likely need to milk this for a while (after all, NFL Network has now official gotten Wrangler Jeans to sponsor their “Favre Watch 2010” who, of course, endorses Favre himself) and try to buy himself as much time as possible to avoid having to practice.

You got to wonder how guys like Adrian Peterson, Ray Edwards, Sidney Rice, and Chad Greenway feel about this.  They are in line for a pay day, but are immediately bumped down the totem pole for a guy that sends a few texts and then gets $16 million dropped in his lap.

All the while, they are out there practicing while he is at home sending text messages in between rides on the lawn mower.

Shame on the Vike brass for this action. Do they really think Favre wouldn’t play for 13, but would for more? That’s an insult to him. I really hope this is another bogus report.
