Don’t let the headline get you too excited. The Vikings do not appear likely candidates to trade for Vincent Jackson.
Reportedly, the Vikings did check into Jackson’s availability but immediately balked at his demands. Jackson wants a five year contract worth $50 million, with $30 million guaranteed. That’s $10 million per year.
Despite the Vikings recent woes at the receiver position, that kind of price tag is hard to swallow. Especially after committing up to $7 million more to quarterback Brett Favre.
Until and unless Vincent Jackson lowers his asking price, Minnesota seems like an unlikely landing spot for the talented but troubled receiver.
Talented but troubled. Sounds like the perfect Viking except for the asking price. It’s good to see the management have been proactive this summer looking at players even if they knew their demands would be ridiculous. Given the uncapped year however, I’d be tempted to pay for him, especially after Rice’s stubbornness to have his hip-op has landed us in hot water…
Take a hike Vinny!
If you pay him this kind of coin, the Vikes better be prepared to pony up similar dollars in the next two years to Cheech and Sid, assuming they both continue to show signs of being star receivers. They just can’t do it, it will screw up the salary structure for sure.
Agreed Freds. We also have other guys that need contracts too.
Am I right that a guy who is suspended for whatever reason is “demanding” a big contract?
I…. What…? I mean…. For Chr….
I need to not say anything else, because these are the types of things that tend to cause me to say things I later regret. The end.
