Did Jerry Glanville Predict The Future?

Believe it or not, I have actually studied this sport on an official academic level, and every now and then I’m able to pull something from those studies and make it useful.

For the last couple of days, I knew that I had read something somewhere in my studies that was specific to the current Brett Favre situation.  I knew that former Falcons coach Jerry Glanville had essentially predicted that Favre would find trouble if he ever played football in a city like New York.  I poured over Ron Wolf’s “The Packer Way” for an answer to my itch.

Now, I finally found a similar version of the quote published online for all of you to see.

“I had to get him out of Atlanta. . . . I could not sober him up,” Glanville said. “I sent him to a city where at 9:00 at night the only thing that’s open is Chili Joes. You can get it two ways, with or without onions. And that’s what made Brett Favre make a comeback was going to a town that closed down. If I would have traded him to New York, nobody to this day would have known who Brett Favre ever was.”

That quote happened back in March long before these allegations surfaced, and it wasn’t the first time Glanville stated such.  I just find it amazing, that nearly 20 years later, how prophetic Glanville’s concerns seem today in the wake of allegations stemming from Favre spending a single season playing football in New York.
