The Vikings inactives are Hank Baskett, Tyrell Johnson, Chris Cook, Chris DeGearge (ankle), Jimmy Kennedy, Everson Griffen, and Fahu Tahi. Joe Webb is the third quarterback.
There are more than a few surprises here, including the benching of a Jimmy Kennedy who claimed to be “pissed off” and “frustrated as hell” earlier this week for not receiving more defensive snaps. Apparently, today he will receive none.
Jon Cooper will start in place of John Sullivan.
Albert Young will be active for the first time since week one as Fahu Tahi is a surprising scratch today. Tahi is not hurt, but is sitting because the Vikings think Albert Young and/or multiple tight end sets will help with pass protection.
Also, it likely means that Adrian Peterson will not have a lead blocker for most of the day… other than Jeff Dugan, that is.
I’m almost as happy with Tahi being inactive as I was with the Moss acquisition. And I loved that move.
Dugan to lead block for Peterson, that changes everything.
Vikings – 83
Dallas – 11
Pardon my ignorance, but why would Tahi be inactivated if the Vikes just aren’t expecting to use him? Is there a limit to the number of players you can have active for a game beyond the roster limit?
Bismuth, each team can only have 45 active players on game day. That means they must pick 8 players off the 53-man roster to sit out each week.
That makes sense. Thanks, Adam.
