It’s Official – Vikings and Giants Moved to Monday Night Due to Weather

The NFL slate will be a little bit different Sunday, as a snowstorm in Minnesota has pushed the game between the Giants-Vikings to Monday night. The decision was handed down by the NFL after the Giants had to spend Saturday in Kansas City.

Minnesota had at least 15 inches of snow and wind gusting over 30 mph. The delay also gives Vikings QB Brett Favre another day to heal, as he continues to try to come back from a shoulder injury suffered last week at home vs Buffalo.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Saturday night that the kickoff time for the game will be 8pm EST, and that the game will only be shown in local markets. The scheduled Monday night game remains the Ravens and Texans from Houston.

The Vikings (5-7) have beaten the Giants (8-4) four straight times. With more than a foot of blowing snow falling in the Twin Cities area throughout Saturday, the Giants’ charter flight was diverted to Kansas City instead. After hanging out in the terminal for a bit, the team then settled in to spend the night there, with an initial plan in place to fly to Minnesota on Sunday morning and make it to the stadium in time for regularly scheduled noon kickoff.

Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said on Twitter the team “monitored weather all week” and moved up the departure time by 3 1/2 hours Saturday. That didn’t prove to be enough of a head start to make it to Minneapolis before the airport shut down all runways.

in the old days, the Giants would have walked to Met Stadium from Kansas City, if the field was not ready, they would have played the Vikings in the parking lot

  2. Brett says:

Does that mean I won’t be able to watch? If you have Sunday ticket can you till watch Monday?

    • Skee says:

Good question. The Vikings are the only reason I have the ticket, so I will be seriously angry if we cant watch it.

      • Skee says:

Just found some info on another popular vikings blog (norseman) that the author spoke to DirecTV personnel and we should see the game.

  3. Purple Charlie says:

Now that the Dome collapsed, Where do you think they will play???

welcome back, Adam…..didn’t take you long to dive back into this “mess” known as the Vikings!!! 2 comments while the league makes their decision on the game:

1…..on Frazier as the new head coach…I’ve felt all along that the Wilfs have to go “big name” GM and coach…for all the reasons previously discussed….. we don’t know if Frazier and Bevell have the talent to “out coach” the great ones or not….Brad might have had their hands tied…no great coaching so far, just a talented team playing like a team, now that Brad is GONE….jury is out

2…..I’ve figured out this “do I want the team to win out or not” thing…I now have a “comfort zone” with a win or a loss…..losses were easy, better draft pick…..and it came to me yesterday, with every win, it shows us how bad Brad really was and how right we were to want him gone for the last 3 yrs….so as a fan, I can now live with a win or a loss

bummed I can’t tape the game here in MT

    GO VIKES!!!!! TOP 10 PICK?
