Vikings With Plenty to Lose if the NFL Goes Through with a Lockout

The Star Tribune reports that the Vikings are the team that has the most to lose in the possible upcoming NFL lockout.

There aren’t many winners in a lockout, but one would cut some teams deeper than others, and the Vikings have a new head coach and a new offensive system. The Vikings also have about a gazillion holes to fill. If this were a normal offseason, they would have access to a record 495 free agents beginning March 4. Zygi’s a pretty generous guy, so chances are the Vikings would have filled a few of the bigger holes with some decent players. With the draft as the only way to improve during a lockout, the Vikings go in without a third-round draft pick. That’s because Brad Childress threw it away on a 26-day rental on Randy Moss.

what does it matter? sure we wont be able to gel as quickly but were still going to be able to fill our holes whenever FA does begin…the qb class isnt that good and i doubt the vikings reach…they’ll take the best player available in every round.

Most Nfl experts are saying they don’t expect a CBA until early september. So how will there be free agency? The nfl stills wants to play 18 games even if the season starts as late as sept. 15th. Also heard the owners don’t want free agency this year(trying to make more money), and a bargaining chip. First off after march first there will be no trades. So those wanting Kolb on draft day won’t happen, unless they have a CBA by the time of the draft. Draft day only trades will be for picks. Players can’t be exchanged for picks draft day if no CBA. I’m really thinking, unless somethings changes with CBA, most Nfl teams will look the same as last year. I really think that is why the Vikings are in no rush to sign free agents. If CBA drags out until sept., I really doubt there will be any free agency.

wtfvikesfan – yeah if there is no FA then theres a major problem lol…i honestly think it’ll be resolved in march sometime and all will be right in the world

Good to be hopeful, but I think Labor Day weekend will be the earliest the CBA is done. Unless players win the court battle, in the next couple weeks. If that happens they will extend labor agreement to a year or two. So teams would be playing under current agreement.
