Ponder to Peterson – new plan of attack?

Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said Adrian Peterson’s pass-catching role might elevate after the coaching staff discussed how to get him even more involved and help early-down efficiency according to Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.

The preseason storyline that Peterson would thrive as a pass-catcher in Musgrave’s new offense faded through the first seven games as the All-Pro running back’s receiving production dipped from previous seasons.

Peterson does not have the best hands on the team, and he dropped several passes in preseason workouts. But he was a viable target for Brett Favre, averaging 30 catches for 293 yards from 2009-10. Through seven games this season, Peterson has 11 catches for 49 yards.

Finding creative ways to get Peterson the ball can help the Vikings avoid third-and-long situations, Musgrave said.

“That’s what happened to us in the second half the other day; we weren’t as efficient on first and second downs,” Musgrave said. “Third down we completed some passes, made some plays. But we were much better in the first half on first and second down passing than we were in the third. A lot of that may have to do with getting Adrian the ball and not just thinking receivers and tight ends.”

I love love to know why the Vikings haven’t been using screen sense day one of training camp ~ ??? Brook’s and Gerhart both are very good and AP can be great ~ I would think they would run them until they stop them ~

I have seen the Packers do it the Vikings back in the 80’s and 90’s ~ There WR’s were not all that good at the time ~ I remember Kramer throwing quick passes to TE Jordon up the middle all game long until someone stop it ~

I do believe with Ponder now the QB we will start to see Musgrave open the offense up ~

I still can’t believe it took Musgrave 4 weeks 7 if you count preseason to get McNabb to wear a wrist band with the plays on it ~ It’s no wonder the offense looked so plain ~

Vikedan, its simple why they didnt use that before……McMiss couldnt get them the ball…..To bad they didnt have Ponder in sooner, we would still have a chance this year

    Bonus Picks from the Handle:

Washington +6 over BUFFALO (at Toronto)
Ask yourself this. What would the line be if this game was being played in Buffalo? We don’t think it would be any higher and that offers us an opportunity to take advantage of a misconception by the marketplace. Treating this game in Toronto like they would a true home game is a mistake. The Rogers Centre in Toronto lacks atmosphere with a crowd that would rather be sipping on café lattes than beer. Tailgating? Where? Bill jerseys throughout? More Steeler and Cowboy shirts are likely. You get the picture. This is not Ralph Wilson stadium with rabid Bill fans. Again, the Rogers Center is like a morgue and in no way can it motivate or amp up the Bill like Ralph Stadium does. In Toronto there are more tickets floating around for this game than a Blue Jay game in early April. Yes, the ‘Skin have some issues but not enough of them for us to refuse this erroneous offering. Play:

    Washington +6

    Detroit –3 over DENVER

The Tim Tebow show was fun to watch but the reality is that we’d rather have a banged up Matthew Stafford throwing from a wheelchair than an able-bodied Tebow attempting passes. Detroit has dropped consecutive games after its 5-0 start and this is a perfect candidate to get back on track against. Frankly, we have no idea how the Denver Tebows don’t get whacked here.

    Play: Detroit –3
