Vikings To Play Next Two Seasons At TCF Bank Stadium

TCF Bank Stadium

The Vikings will play their next two seasons at the University of Minnesota’ stadium – TCF Bank Stadium while their new stadium is being built.

The Vikings would play outdoors on the university’s Minneapolis campus in 2014 and 2015 while the NFL team’s new stadium is built on the site of the Metrodome.

The deal requires approval from the university’s Board of Regents. The agreement goes before the regents’ Facilities and Operations Committee Thursday, with the full board scheduled to act Friday.

University spokesman Chuck Tombarge and Vikings Vice President Lester Bagley say no details will be released until a briefing Thursday.

A letter of intent last May set a tentative deal for the Vikings to pay the school $3 million a season for up to four seasons, plus revenue sharing.

It ought to be a blast getting to watch the Vikings play outdoors again. That’ll really bring back some great memories from days gone by, when “his holiness” Bud Grant didn’t even allow heaters on the sidelines, and it was 40 below zero outside. The days when there was barely any scoring at all against the Purple People Eaters, and that unparalleled front four of Alan Page, Carl Eller, Doug Sutherland, and big Jim Marshall. Days when snot would freeze under fans’ noses, purple crazies would come to the well below zero game with no shirt on, and if you spit, it would freeze before it hit the ground. Those players were… well, tough ain’t the word. The days when other teams were scared to come to Minnesota and play. Zygi Wilf and all of the ownership NEED to push hard for a retractable roof on the new stadium, so the coaches and staff can condition the Vikings to be tough again. I sincerely believe that that would make the Vikings harder to beat, like it was back in those days gone by. It was a lot of fun watching the Vikings play outdoors in the freezing cold back then, and I would just love to see at least some of that same kind of play again. I’d love nothing more than to see a retractable roof on the new stadium, but in the meantime, the team playing the next couple of seasons at TCF Bank Stadium will be a taste of those bygone days, and a really unforgettable experience for a huge number of younger fans. I can hardly wait. This is going to be a lot of fun. SKOL Vikings!!!!!
