Vikings Announce Inactives

The Vikings have announced their inactive list for Week 1 at St. Louis.

Shaun Prater, CB

David Yankey, OG

Brandon Watts, LB

Zach Line, FB

Christian Ponder, QB

MarQueis Gray, TE

Michael Mauti, LB

None of the players on this list are particularly surprising. Line, Watts and Mauti are injured and were ruled OUT in the injury report.

Gray, signed just last week, hasn’t had enough time to learn the offense, so the Vikings will go with two tight ends, Rhett Ellison and Kyle Rudolph. He should play next week against New England or the week after that.

Jeff Davidson apparently feels more comfortable with Joe Berger as a backup guard than Yankey. As he develops, Yankey could take that position from Berger, or maybe even the starting spot from left guard Charlie Johnson.

Prater really wouldn’t have played if he was active, as he’s a third (maybe fourth) string backup cornerback.
