Vikings won’t cut Peterson

Minnesota Vikings v St. Louis Rams

It’s a bold thought that the Vikings would totally cut ties with their face of the franchise the past few seasons, but at the end of the day there’s no question that cooler heads should prevail when it comes to running back Adrian Peterson. Examine the Vikings’ NFL Lines for this 2015 season at

Peterson and his agent have spoken out, and they want out of being property of the Vikings. At the same time, a trade would be hard to come by for the amount the Vikings want, and while the Vikings would save a bunch of money if they cut the back, there’s no doubt there would be major backlash as it would be looked at as a complete step backwards by the club.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was as plain and simple as can be when it came to talking about Peterson recently. He knows that the Vikings are that much better with him, and without him they simply don’t have the playmakers on offense to compete in the tough NFC North.

“Adrian’s under contract for three more years with us,” Zimmer said. “That’s why you sign those contracts, that’ s why you get these big bonuses, we’re planning on him being here.”

Peterson is set to make over $12 million for the 2015 season, and while he might want out and want a trade to a team like the
Cowboys, there’s no way that the Vikings can orchestrate a deal that would work for all sides. He might as well get use to the fact that he is going to wear purple in 2015.

The veteran running back, who just a few years back ran for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns, isn’t happy the Vikings didn’t publicly stand by him more when he was brought up on charges of beating his child last September.

While the team took the wait and see approach, at the end of the day they didn’t want to jump the gun and be convicted of standing too close to a player that had major allegations against him.

The team though does want him back, and knowing that his options are limited, Peterson should want to return to the place where he had his most success, that being the Vikings.

The fans of Minnesota will accept Peterson back in the fold with open arms. He’s still one of the most popular players on the team, and at the end of the day, he’s a player that will sell tickets, another reason why the Vikings will do the right thing, and make sure he’s happy and on the roster in 2015.
