Friday the Vikings placed Adrian Peterson on injured reserve, meaning the running back will officially be out until at least mid-November, Ben Goessling of ESPN.com reports.
Peterson had surgery Thursday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee after he was injured in the third quarter of the Vikings’ 17-14 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night.
Recovery from a torn meniscus typically takes three to four months, meaning Peterson could miss all or most of the Vikings’ remaining 14 games. The team can bring one player back off injured reserve after a minimum of eight weeks, and the NFL no longer requires clubs to designate a player for return upon placing him on IR.
